This piece was commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to honour the twenty-fifth anniversary of Dr. Elmer Iseler as conductor of the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. The premiere performance was by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall on St. Cecilia's Day (November 22, 1989). The commission was made possible through the assistance of the Ontario Arts Council.</dc:description>
