Gustav Ciamaga was born on April 10, 1930 and is predominantly known for his work in electronic music. He studied at the University of Western Ontario (1951-1954) while also studying privately with Gordon Delamont, before attending the University of Toronto where he studied with John Weinzweig and John Beckwith. He received is Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Brandeis University, where he studied with Arthur Berger, Harold Shapero, and Irving Fine. He organized an electronic studio at Brandeis University in 1963, before joining the faculty at the University of Toronto (1963), where he became the director of the Electronic Music Studio in 1965. He was also the chairman of the theory and composition department (1968) and then dean of the Faculty of Music (1977-1984) and acting principal of the Royal Conservatory of Music Toronto (RCMT, 1983-1984). He passed away on June 11, 2011.

Further materials were added to the collection from a transfer from the University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio (UTEMS), which included personal papers of Myron Schaeffer and Gustav Ciamaga and the UTEMS tape collection (A2020-05). Both Schaeffer's and Ciamaga's papers were left in the Studio. The administrative records of UTEMS are held at the University of Toronto Archives.
Materials from the A2020-05 accession, including electronic records, were transferred to the Music Library from the University of Toronto Electronic Music Studio, via the former director of UTEMS, Professor Dennis Patrick.

Series consists of programs, program notes, and reviews of concerts involving Gustav Ciamaga and/or his music, predominantly at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and Brandeis University. The file also includes articles and a copy of the trial proceedings for a plagiarism trial that Ciamaga testified in, and the program for the "In Memory of Gustav" concert that the Faculty of Music presented on November 4, 2012, featuring the music of Ciamaga and his colleagues. The three PDF files included are a copy of the in memoriam for Gustav Ciamaga written by Dennis Patrick for the *CMC Notations* newsletter (Winter 2012); a digital copy of the program for the "In Memory of Gustav" concert; and a digital copy of the program for Ciamaga's memorial service.
