In 1947, the department split to form the Department of University Extension, and the Department of Publicity. In 1974 the name was changed to the Department of Information Services, and in 1984 the Department of Communications.  In the 1990s, the department was renamed the Department of Public Affairs, and in the 2000s, became Strategic Communications and Marketing.</p>
