Tammy Flynn Seybold is an American-born artist and conservator. She attained a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Art and Chemistry at University of California, Berkeley in 1988; and completed a Master of Art Conservation, Paintings Conservation at Queen's University in 1990. Her intimate knowledge of artistic methods and techniques empower an active career in both museums and the private sectors. Following a few years of distinguished internship and fellowship in National Gallery of Art and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, she started her own business, TFS Conservation, in 1997. It is her private practice that specialized in treatment of twentieth-century art, servicing museums and galleries in San Francisco, Toronto, and Hong Kong. She has also been the Contract Conservator of Paintings and Sculpture in the Art Gallery of Ontario in 2007–2011.<lb/>But conservation did not take away from her passion in artistic creation. She was heavily influcened by San Francisco Bay Area Figurative Movement and enjoyed working with challenging materials such as gold leaf, rare pigments, and found objects. Her works emphasized exquisite and the emphemeral nature of the world surrounding us. She has exhibited in Lisbon, Toronto, Hong Kong, Whistler, and Vancouver. She currently lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.

This is the only work that was painted after Seybold moved back to Canada. The source materials are shards of traditional Cantonese pottery that she found washed ashore on the South side of Hong Kong Island. These pieces conveyed messages of resilience of cultural hertiage to h er. Despite being tossed by the surf and tides, these shards retained their historic beauty, and in fact may have become more beautiful by the tumult and friction they endured. They also represent how memories of a place and time can become polished, and edges softened with the passage of time.
