Jean Chalmers formed the Conservatory Opera and Concert Committee in 1945, which led to the first Canadian Opera Company's (COC) women's committee. In 1984, Jean and Floyd Chalmers donated funds to establish the Jean A. Chalmers Chair in Canadian Music and the Institute for Canadian Music at the University of Toronto.
