Archival history

Nouwen originally accumulated his published articles through subscriptions, news services, publishers, or friends. In 1975 he transferred his archival and published material to Yale Divinity School Library where they were arranged in chronological order according to format, and numbered and stored with several articles in each file. Nouwen's office continued to transfer his material until January 2000. From 1986 and after Nouwen's death, additional published material also accumulated at L'Arche Daybreak. The two sources of published material were brought together in the Henri Nouwen Archives where they were merged in 2001-2002.
Articles dealing with Compassion are prominent in this sub series. Since the original publication of the 8-part series on compassion was stored at Yale as an offprint, the Archives decided to describe the offprint as a whole and photocopy each part of the series, and store and describe the parts individually as well.
