Historique

Harry Morris Cassidy was born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1900. At the age of 16 he enlisted in the 172nd Battalion, but his age was discovered and he was returned to England to the Boys' Battalion. He transferred to the RAF for the remainder of the war. On his return to Canada he enrolled at the University of British Columbia from which he graduated in 1923. He received his PhD from the University of California and taught at the University of North Carolina and Rutgers before joining the University of Toronto as assistant professor of Social Science in 1929. He left the university for public service in British Columbia in 1934. In 1939 he returned to the University of California as dean of social work. After serving as director of training for the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in 1944, he joined the University of Toronto as head of the Department of Social Work. He remained in this position until his death in 1951.
