Scope and content

A collection of approximately 2000 “literatura de cordel” chapbooks, or “folhetos de cordel”, from 1934 to 2017. Most of the chapbooks are printed in the Northeastern provinces of Brazil; including imprints the Tipografia São Francisco (Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará), and the Tipografia Pontes (Guarabira, Paraíba), along with those of several independent poet-publishers, such as the Rodolfo Coelho Cavalcante (Salvador, Bahia), the José Francisco Borges (Bezerros, Pernambuco), and Franklin Maxado Nordestino (São Paulo). Also includes a series of woodcut illustrations printed onto broadsides from the artist Enéias Tavares dos Santos.
