Scope and content
File consists of manuscript and typescript drafts of a paper titled "Composing in the Nineties." Beckwith delivered the paper as a public talk at Bishop's University, Lennoxville, Quebec (January 22, 1998), and at the University of South Carolina, Columbia (March 19, 1998). It was an expansion of a presentation to the Canadian University Music Society (CUMS, June 4, 1997) at Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, under the title "Accessibility, Elitism, Oblivion: Options for the Composer." The file includes all three versions of the paper, some earlier drafts, and correspondence with Ulla Colgrass and Tom Gordon (Bishop's University).
