        History

        Dr. Edgar Nesbitt Coutts was born in 1874 in Kent County, Ontario. Coutte received his Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Toronto in 1900. He completed his post-graduate work in Liverpool and Glasgow from 1900-1905, after which he returned to Canada. He had a practice in Agincourt until 1915 when he left to serve in the First World War. He was part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in Salonika, where he developed tuberculosis. He spent part of the war in hospital in Switzerland before returning to Canada. He was the Medical Superintendent at the Freeport Sanatorium in Kitchener, Ontario, which he helped develop into a modern institution. He married Jean Ireland in 1921 and they had two daughters. Coutts died 18 February 1952 at the age of 77 in Toronto.
