Biographical history

Eldon Garnet, born in 1946, is a photographer, sculptor and writer based in Toronto. He is best known for his large-scale photographs, which exhibit extensively, and his public sculptures in Toronto. He is the author of two novels, and for 15 years he was editor and publisher of Impulse Magazine, an award-winning magazine of architecture, design, art, culture and literature that reached its peak in the late 1980s.

Scope and content

Papers consist of editorial files for Impulse magazine from 1975-1990. Files for each volume include submissions to the journal, drafts with editorial corrections and page proofs. Many files include additional editorial material, such as advertising, cover art, rejected submissions and correspondence. The collection includes an office archive, which contains correspondence, financial information (with grant proposals), advertising and promotional material, and circulation and distribution records. There is a large number of original art boards and other oversized materials, such as posters. The editorial records of I Shot Mussolini by Eldon Garnet is also included along with related correspondence.
