File consists of George Brough's five-year diary, spanning the years 1971 to 1975. During this time, Brough was an accompanist and opera coach for the Banff School of Fine Arts and for the University of Toronto Opera School. Brough also accomanied numerous Faculty of Music and Royal Conservatory of Music students in their final recitals, exams, and master class performances.

Opera productions that Brough was involved with during this time include: The Spirit of Fundy by Norman Symonds; La Serva Padrona by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi; Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell; Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini; Cosi fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; Noye's Fludde by Benjamin Britten; The Burning Fiery Furnace by Benjamin Britten [music drama]; Heloise and Abelard by Charles Wilson (world premiere); Bluebeard's Castle by Bela Bartok; Louis Riel by Harry Somers; and The Bear by William Walton.

Brough also performed regularly with the Mendelssohn Choir, Festival Singers, Chamber Players of Toronto, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Adele Armin, James Spragg, John Rapson, Chris Weait, Mary Lou Fallis, Heinz Holliger, Paul Brodie, Melville Cook, Eleanor James, Eleanor James, Jan Simons, Elaine Mossop Sargous, Ada Bronstein, Ailine Hess, George Horvath, Vladimir Orloff, Glynne Evans, Douglas Perry, and Hugh Orr.
