        History

John Fox was a Bachelors of Art in Social Sciences student at UTSC from [ca. 1979] – 1982. As a student he was a part of many different activities such as the Scarborough College ‘B’ Hockey team and the Scarborough College Cricket team. Most notably he was a student newspaper photographer and journalist with the Balcony Square team from 1979 until 1982. On March 3rd 1982 the Balcony Square was closed by the Scarborough College Student Council (SCSC). The core group of student journalists, whom John was apart of, created a petition, and John stood on the cafeteria tables every hour on the hour acting a town crier about the events occurring between the newspaper and student council. From this event, they created the Underground, a student run newspaper, with the first publication circulating on March 9, 1982. Through John’s time as a student journalist, he wrote and photographed many different student events, though he mainly focused on sports and the hockey teams at Scarborough College.
