File consists of a bound volume of typed and photocopied articles and handouts (including a syllabus and class list) for a year-long seminar, Hesychasm, co-lectured by Nouwen with John Mogabgab during the academic year of 1979 - 1980. There is a typed table of contents at the beginning of the bound volume listing 18 items. There is one photocopy of Nouwen's "Solitude and Community" published in Worship (Jan.1978: 13-23). In addition to a final paper topics, a directory of local monasteries and bibliographies on hesychasm, Russian spirituality and Eastern spiritual theology, there are a number of articles. They are:
-Kallistos Ware's "The Power to Name: The Function of the Jesus Prayer", "Silence in Prayer", "The Spiritual Father in Orthodox Christianity"
-Louis Bouyer on St. Anthony
-Irenée Hausherr's "The Great Currents of Eastern Spirituality" (from The Eastern Churches Quarterly, Vol II no. 3-4 (1937): 111-121,175-185.)
-Parker Palmer's "Escape and Engagement"
-Igumen Chariton of Valamo's "The Art of Prayer"
-several explanations of hesychasm from "The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Chruch".
