The series of handouts on Compassion were also used by Nouwen for his course The Life and Works of Thomas Merton (see file 2107). These meditations on compassion are most likely the early developments of what would become the book "Compassion: a reflection on the Christian Life" which Nouwen co-wrote with Donald P. McNeill and Douglas A. Morrison, which was serialised in Sojourners, (September 1977 to April 1978) and published in book-form in 1982. See Published works series, box 300, item 1836.
A copy of "Spirituality of the Religion Teacher" was later published in Union Seminary Quarterly Review 32, no. 1 (fall 1976): 17-24. See Published works, box 294, item 1590.
A copy of "Compassion: a study inspired by the life and works of Vincent Van Gogh" can be found in the Manuscripts series, box 37, file 157.
An article titled "Compassion : solidarity, consolation and comfort" was later published in America 134, no. 10 (March 13, 1976): 195-200. See Published works series, box 294, item 1580.
An article titled "Compassion in the art of Vincent van Gogh" was also published in The Catholic Worker 42, no. 4 (May 1976): 3-4, 12. See Published works series, box 294, item 1583.
