        Gwynneth Heaton (1938-) was head of the University of Toronto Science and Medicine Library from 1970-1995.

        After graduating from Bishop Strachan School in Toronto in 1955, Ms. Heaton attended the University of Toronto. There, she received her B.A. in 1959, BLS in 1960 and MLS in 1974. Before joining the staff of the University of Toronto Library in 1970, Ms. Heaton held various library positoins in Canada and the United States. These include Librarian, Canadian Institute of International Affairs, 1960; Acquisitions Librarian, Jackson Library, Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, California, 1961-1966; and Head of Acquisitions, State University of New York, Binghamton, 1967-1970. In 1970, Ms. Heaton was appointed Head of the University of Toronto Science and Medicine LIbrary. She served in this capacity until 1995 when she became University of Toronto Director of Library Outreach. Ms. Heaton retired from the University of Toronto Library system in 1997.

        In addition to library administration, Ms. Heaton has been interested in researching reference issues and has published numerous articles on the subject.
