This accession contains records form the Office of Research Ethics. The records consist of application case files for various studies. The set is a sample containing applicants with last names ranging from 'C' to 'F' and 'M' to 'O'.

Contains Student and Faculty Education Ethics Review Committee Minutes, member information, reports and correspondence. Also contains Education Research Ethics Board minutes, and Social sciences and Humanities Reserach Ethics Board Minutes.

This accession contains training binders on research ethics, both human and animal, correspondence between faculty and various ethics boards, publications on Canadian ethics standards and human ethics course materials.

Selectively retained research ethics protocol case files dated from 1999-2006. Accession also includes the Baycrest-Sunnybrook Hospital Research Ethics Committee minutes for 1981-1999 as well as correspondence, policies, and procedures pertaining to University of Toronto human subject research for 1980-1999.

Predominantly consists of minutes, agenda, guidelines, and reports of the HSII (2001-2006), HSI (2000-2005), Human Subjects Review Committee (1984-2001), Human Experimentation Committee (1977-1990), and the Human Testing Sub-Committee (1966). In addition, there are correspondence, lists of committee membership, reports, comments on protocols, as well as minutes of discussions concerning the development, review, and enforcement of ethics review policies and guidelines. Also included are Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS) advisory memos, guidelines and implementation information.

Records consist of protocol decisions (1994-1998) documenting the approval of research projects involving the use of human subjects. Protocol decisions may include minutes of meetings, correspondence, comments on protocols, and notification of approval or disapproval. The protocols were approved by ad hoc ethics review committees. This ad hoc system was eventually replaced by several standing Research Ethics Committees in 1998.
