Membership and Collective meetings

File consists of notification of meetings, agendas, minutes, reports and other materials prepared for the annual meeting of the New Catholic Times membership and Board of Directors meetings, as well as registers of the directors, members, and officers.

Staff meetings

File consists of agendas and minutes for meetings of the staff of the Catholic New Times for the years 2002-2006. Staff were responsible for the day-to-day aspects of producing the newspaper.

Copies of letters

File consists of carbon copies of letters (most of them from Sr. Mary Jo Leddy, editor) to readers and supporters of the Catholic New Times, thanking them for their donations, suggestions, and contributions of articles, reports, and photographs. Some of the letters from Leddy also request continued contributions from regions of Canada outside of Ontario. File also includes carbon copies of letters from Leddy to staff at other publications (both Catholic and secular) regarding the use or exchange of features, columns, and photographs or the exchange of subscriptions, and carbon copies of letters from Leddy to Members of Parliament and one to Prime Minister Trudeau regarding aboriginal treaty rights. Original incoming correspondence is included with most of the letters.

Publishing Group meetings

File consists of agendas, minutes, reports (including budgets and other financial statements), proposals, and other material prepared for meetings of the Publishing Group from 1990 to 2006. Records for the year 2000 do not exist. After the corporation's structural reorganization in 1990, the members of the corporation elected approximately 10 people from within the membership to form the Publishing Group, which met with the editor of the Catholic New Times about ten times per year to oversee all aspects of the production of the newspaper.

Letters from Gwen McGrenere

File consists of letters from Gwen McGrenere to Janet Somerville and Sr. Mary Jo Leddy (co-editors of the Catholic New Times) and copies of letters from Somerville and Leddy to McGrenere, all regarding the possibility of McGrenere writing for the newspaper on the topic of science and religion. File also includes copies of short reflections and articles written by McGrenere and a photocopy of an article by Amy Gross called “Thinking like a woman” published in the May 1982 issue of Vogue.

Letters to the Collective, 1977-1980

File consists of letters from readers and supporters of the Catholic New Times addressed to the Collective as a whole or to individual members (often Sr. Mary Jo Leddy or Fr. Jack Costello, editors over this time period), offering their best wishes for the newspaper's success, requesting subscriptions, and submitting articles, reports, and reflections for publication. File also includes letters to the editor from readers expressing concern about the content of the newspaper, letters from staff at other publications (such as the Prairie Messenger Catholic Weekly and the Catholic Register) regarding the exchange of ideas and material, letters to the editor (some not intended for publication) from concerned or interested church officials, and copies of letters of response from the editor to these officials. File also includes a copy of an article from the Toronto Star by Tom Harpur called "New Catholic tabloid in Toronto gives the news others won't print" (date unknown). Some correspondence comes from Peru, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.

Catholic newspaper foundation re: incorporation

File consists of original signed and sealed documents certifying the incorporation of the New Catholic Times in the Province of Ontario, including the constitution, the notarial certificate of true copy, the letters patent, the affidavit of bona fides, and the affidavit of witness, as well as photocopies of these documents. File also includes:
-signed copies of the application to the Lieutenant Governor for a charter under the Corporations Act
-copies of the by-laws
-copies of the statement of purpose
-copies of forms from the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations regarding initial notice or notice of changes in directors
-the initial directors' and members' registers
-handwritten notes about the process of incorporation
-copies of the application for registration as a charitable organization
-an information circular issued by the Department of National Revenue, Taxation about registered Canadian charitable organizations
-a photocopied portion of a chapter in a book on charities accounting
-copies of two memos from the corporate department of the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations regarding the selection and clearance of a corporate name
-copies of the notice from the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations assigning the New Catholic Times an Ontario corporation number
-a description and profile of the New Catholic Times Hanna Fund
-minutes and reports prepared for the annual meetings of the Board of Directors for December 14, 1981 and February 18, 1985

Committee terms of reference

File consists of copies of the by-laws of the New Catholic Times Inc., a copy of the mission statement, and copies of the terms of reference for the Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Editorial committees.

Correspondence answered (originals and carbons) August 1978 - August 1979

File consists of carbon copies of letters from Fr. Jack Costello, editor, and other members of the Collective, to readers and supporters of the Catholic New Times thanking them for their donations, suggestions, criticisms, and submissions of articles and reports, or responding to their inquires about subscriptions. Some of the letters from staff also encourage continued contributions from regions of Canada outside of Ontario. File also includes carbon copies of letters from Costello to staff at other Catholic publications regarding the use or exchange of features and columns, and carbon copies of letters from Costello to concerned readers and one church official responding to concerns about the newspaper's coverage of and editorial position on homosexuality. File includes some correspondence from Chile. Original incoming correspondence is included with most of the letters.

File consists of carbon copies of letters from various members of the Collective to readers and supporters of the Catholic New Times thanking them for their donations, suggestions, criticisms, and submissions of articles, reports, and press releases. Some of the letters from staff also encourage continued contributions from regions of Ontario outside of Toronto or request assistance with coverage of a particular topic. Original incoming correspondence is included with most of the letters, and some incoming letters have no responses. File includes some correspondence from Peru.

Job descriptions

File consists of job descriptions and profile information for positions at the Catholic New Times of Editor, Editorial Assistant/Reporter, Associate Editor, Assistant Editor, Marketing Manager (also called Production and Advertising Manager), Business Manager, and Circulation Manager.

File consists of letters from readers and supporters of the Catholic New Times, addressed to the Collective as a whole or to individual members (often Sr. Mary Jo Leddy, editor), expressing their encouragement, suggestions, or appreciation for particular articles, as well as submitting reports, articles, events, or letters to the editor for publication, requesting or cancelling subscriptions, and offering donations. File also includes letters expressing concerns and criticisms about the newspaper's coverage or contents, and letters from staff at other publications granting permission to reprint articles. File includes correspondence from Ireland, Poland, Mexico, Peru, Chile and the Philippines.
