Analog compositions

Subseries contains works that were mostly realized in a classic tape-studio setting for audio playback. A few of the works were generated with the early computer program PIPER.

Computer compositions

Subseries consists of works that were realized on a computer for audio playback, i.e. the resultant output is either a midi file or standard .wav file.

Correspondence and memorabilia

Series consists of Gustav Ciamaga's personal correspondence with other composers and musicians, family members, researchers, and engineers, as well as miscellaneous memorabilia, including certificates and photographs.

Correspondence with Robert Fraser

File contains correspondence with Robert Fraser regarding Soundshaper, a graphical user interface (GUI) for the Composers Desktop Project (CDP) created by Fraser. The file also contains digital photographs of Robert Fraser and the software, which were sent as attachments to emails.

Family records and correspondence

Series consists of copies of photographs and documents pertaining to Johnstone's family. Documents include correspondence between Mary F. Williamson and Helmut Kallmann of the National Library of Canada; a copy of the petition for divorce filed by Catherine (McGregor) Johnstone against her husband John Francis Johnstone, which was later withdrawn (January 8, 1979); a copy of an article in the Toronto Star (November 26, 1927) regarding Amelia Hart and her seven husbands (Johnstone was the fourth); a copy of a letter from Mary F. Williamson to Professor Carl Morey at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto regarding Johnstone and performances of his songs; a copy of Johnstone's obituary (February 25, 1913); and a copy of scanned portraits of Johnstone. The series also consists of electronic records, including scanned images from the Johnstone family photo album (ca. 1900).

Programs and reviews

Series consists of programs, program notes, and reviews of concerts involving Gustav Ciamaga and/or his music, predominantly at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto and Brandeis University. The file also includes articles and a copy of the trial proceedings for a plagiarism trial that Ciamaga testified in, and the program for the "In Memory of Gustav" concert that the Faculty of Music presented on November 4, 2012, featuring the music of Ciamaga and his colleagues. The three PDF files included are a copy of the in memoriam for Gustav Ciamaga written by Dennis Patrick for the CMC Notations newsletter (Winter 2012); a digital copy of the program for the "In Memory of Gustav" concert; and a digital copy of the program for Ciamaga's memorial service.
