Canadian General Hospital No. 4 (University of Toronto)

Contains correspondence among Charles Kirk Clarke, William Belfry Hendry, James Alexander Roberts and others concerning the hospital unit, together with memoranda on the unit's history and personnel; war diary, in three volumes, recording daily activities of the hospital in Salonika; albums of photographs of the unit's activities in England, in Salonika, and en route to those places.

This accession of records transferred from the Faculty of Information's Inforum Library contains the records of Winifred G. Barnstead, and document her work as the first Director of the Library School at the Ontario College of Education—the original incarnation of the Faculty of Information. The records document Barnstead's work in developing formalized training at the Library School during her tenure from 1928 to 1951. The records include correspondence with libraries and other library schools, UofT staff and faculty, drafts of manuscripts and articles written by Barnstead, School/Faculty informational bulletins, information on course programming and development, as well as some miscellaneous collected material relating generally to librarianship and library studies.

The accession also contains a large amount of photographs and sounds and moving images, as well as artifacts from the College.

Ham 2019 accession

Family photo album documenting James Ham's childhood into early adulthood including his time working for Ontario Hydro as a student and his time in the Navy during World War II. There is also one family trip diary describing a car trip he took with his wife Mary and their two children to the Northwest Territories in 1971. There are selected slides documenting his trip to the USSR in 1960. There is also a selection of colour slides taken during trips to Asia including an official Uof T trip to China in 1980 as well as a 2nd trip to China and Korea with Mary in 1982. Finally there are photos of the plaque unveiling to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Ajax Campus, 1994

These records were created by Col. Stacey in his capacity as Professor of History, Director of the Army Historical Section and editor and member of the Council of the Royal Society of Canada.

This accession of records from the Department of Rare Books and Special Collections (Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library) contains annual reports (ca. 2003-2013), event, lecture and exhibit files (ca. 1970s-2011) and Friends of the Fisher Steering Committee minutes (ca. 1985-2015). It also contains photographs that primarily document the many receptions and events held in the McLean Hunter Room from the buildings opening in 1973 to 1996. It also Includes images of the buildings and space occupied by the Department as well as photographs of staff.

Clark family 1989 accession

Records documenting the academic and extra-curricular activities of Herbert Abraham Clark (BA 1895) and his children, E. Ritchie Clark (BComm 1933) and Martha (Mattie) M. L. Clark (BA 1934, MA 1936) while students at the University of Toronto. Included are course notes, student handbooks, memorabilia, photoprints of several of Mattie's classmates from the Class of 1934 (University College) and of Edith Peake (UC 1929-1931), and a heavily annotated copy of "Select Poems...1908" edited by W. J. Alexander, that belonged to Herbert's brother-in-law, James Arthur MacNicol.

Ham 2002 accession

Records in this accession relate to several series established in B1997-0010, and include personal correspondence, clippings, memorabilia, notebooks and scrapbooks. Also includes many diplomas and honours, artifacts, slides and photographs. Of particular note is documentation relating to J.M. Ham's trip to India as a representative to the World University Services in 1953 as well as personal correspondence with family while a student at MIT in 1946-47.

Family correspondence relating to trips Prof Ham took including his 1960 trip to Moscow for the 1st International Congress of the International Federation Automatic Control, a trip to the United Kingdom in 1966 and the Balkans in 1971 for a meeting of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. There is also family correspondence for trips he took together with his wife Mary to Scotland and Banff, Vancouver however most of the family correspondence documents the sabbatical year the family took to Cambridge in 1960 - 1961.

Also included in this accession is one photo taken at the IFAC meeting in Moscow.

Land 1997 accession

These records document the activities of Brian Land as an undergraduate at the University of Toronto and as a librarian; as executive assistant (1963-1964) to Walter Gordon when, as Minister of Finance, he presented his first budget in the House of Commons in 1963; as a member of the executive of the Davenport-Dovercourt Liberal Association (Gordon’s constituency), and as advisor to and partial author of Gordon’s incomplete memoir, Pursuit of an ideal – Canadian independence. They also cover his involvement in the 1962 federal election (the subject of his MA thesis) that was published in 1965 as Eglinton: the election study of a federal constituency.

Bissell 2017 accession

This accession contains slides taken by Claude or Christine Bissell of many colleagues including Marshall McLuhan, Jack Sword, Robin Harris, Don Forster, Donald Ivey, as well as canadian writer Robertson Davies, poet Robert Finch, and artist Barker Fairley. There are many more images of friends and colleague, some identified, some not. Also included are some portraits including a colour transparency of Bissell's Installation photograph, photographs of official events and Bissell's 80th Birthday Party.

Bissell 2011 accession

Records document Claude Bissell’s personal and professional life. Unlike previous accessions, B2011-0018 contains extensive personal correspondence with family members especially while he was posted overseas during the 2nd World War as well as with his wife Christine (Series 4). There are also several series that document Bissell’s personal life rather than his professional life including his creativity through music, drama and poetry (Series 12) and his relationship with his brother Keith (Series 15). Nonetheless, most of the other records in this accession complete series of records found in earlier accessions and include many of his lectures (series 8 and 9), writings (Series 5 and 6) as well as his post-retirement diaries which completes an earlier run in B1988-0091 (Series 11). «

Wade's documents on the history of the University of Toronto (1920-1922).
