Menus types included placemat menus, single sheet menus, trifold and four fold menus, five fold, seven fold and menus in booklet style. Some menus are laminated while others are in vinyl enclosures. Menus range from take away and delivery, to eat in and include wine lists, menus for cafes, breakfast menus and menus for cafeteria lunches.

The material is divided into Series 1 Menus. The series is divided into 6 subseries: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America.

David Thompson Papers

The collection consists of holograph manuscripts and copies of manuscripts by Thompson, including two drafts for his projected book: a narrative account of his explorations in western America from 1784 to 1812. It also includes several sketches of mountain elevations, some of which were published in J.B. Tyrell's 1916 edition of the Narrative, and several other fragments of manuscripts by Thompson, typed transcripts of his journals, and photostats of other original Thompson material held elsewhere.

Dyke, Doris Jean

Kevin F. Dwyer photographs

File consists of photographs of Henri Nouwen by Kevin Dwyer. The phototographs were taken in 1996 when Nouwen and Frank Hamilton visited Dwyer and his partner Al (Alvaro) Carrasco in Guerneville, California. These photographs were commissioned by Nouwen on a casual basis, and used for promotional purposes. One photograph was used for the first edition of "With Burning Hearts: A Meditation on the Eucharistic Life". One folder contains a context on the images from the photographer and stipulations for use.

Card from Jennie Strasser

File consists of a handwritten card sent from Nouwen to Strasser with a photograph of a winter scene on it. A Christmas card to Nouwen from Strasser has been removed to the General file.

Letters from Jack Stroh

File consists of correspondence between Henri Nouwen and Jack and Sue Stroh from 1991 to 1996. The letters are primarily photocopies. There are eight letters from Nouwen (three are original, one handwritten). Also includes three photographs of the Strohs with Jean Vanier and Henri Nouwen as well as published writing by the Strohs related to their friendship with Nouwen, and copies of correspondence regarding Nouwen.

Letters from Pat Sibley Parry

File consists of correspondence between Nouwen and Mike Sibley, Pat Sibley, and William (Bill) Parry. Correspondence includes letters between the Henri Nouwen Society and Pat Sibley on the possibility of donating Nouwen's letters to the Henri Nouwen Literary Estate. These letters contain annotations on what letters were sent to the archive. File also contains a hand-drawn map of Losone, Switzerland by Nouwen with an accompanying note explaining it. File includes photographs of the "Holding Giving" statue commissioned by Nouwen for L'Arche Daybreak sent to Parry from Nouwen and a scrapbook page with photograph clippings of Nouwen.

Letters from Caroline Wales

File consists of letters to Wales from Nouwen and his administrative assistants; a scanned colour photograph of Wales and Nouwen; and printed black and white photographs. The photographs were taken at a reception given by Nouwen at his home for the visit of Bishop Howard Hubbard to the Yale Divinity School in November 1977. Photographs are of Nouwen, Bishop Hubbard, Wales, Louis Dupree, Richard Russel, George Linbeck, Leo O'Brian, and Francine Bowser. The photographs have descriptions on the back written by Wales. The back of one print is signed by Nouwen, Howard Hubbard, Matt Clark, and Mike Farno.

Letters from Lawrence J. Kenney

File consists of correspondence between Nouwen and Kenney, a card, and three inscriptions written by Nouwen in books he sent to Kenney. Some of the letters were sent by Kathy Christie in Nouwen's absence. The card was sent to Kenney by Nouwen for Christmas 1994 and has a photograph of 'The Virgin With Three Hands," an icon from the Dayspring chapel, on it.

Letters from Callie Stone

File consists of two picture cards. One card Nouwen sent to Stone with a picture of Rembrandt's "Self-Portrait" and a note written by Nouwen on the back. The other card is one with a picture of "John XXIII of Rome" that was purchased by Stone at the recommendation of Nouwen. File letters including one from Callie S. Stone to Maureen Wright regarding Stone writing an article for the Henri Nouwen Society. Another letter is an original from Nouwen including a note n Latin American people and a brief description of his recent travels.

Nouwen Letter Project

Series consists of materials from various iterations of the Nouwen Letter Projects that began as an initiative by the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre under the direction of Sister Sue Mosteller, executrix of the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre, in 1998. The goal of the project was to gather as much of Nouwen’s original material as possible. This encompassed his letters, manuscripts, articles, photographs, and other audiovisual material. After the original 1998 campaign, there have been successive campaigns together with the University of St. Michael's College Special Collections to continue the collection efforts for the project.

Letters from Nathan Ball

File consists of letters (paper, cards and postcards) written by Henri Nouwen to Nathan Ball from 1986-1996; two letters written by Laurent Nouwen to Nathan Ball; a condolence letter from Peter Naus regarding Nouwen's death; and photographs.

Elizabeth M. Sibley Parry photographs

File consists of two sets of photographs of Nouwen received from Elizabeth M. Sibley Parry. The first set consists of 19 photographs, primarily of Nouwen visiting with Pat Sibley. The photographs have handwritten notes on the back including:

Carol Plantinga Mead photographs

File consists of eight photographs that were collected by Carol Plantinga Mead. Six of these photographs feature Henri Nouwen. Two of the photographs were sent to Mead by Nouwen's father, Laurent Nouwen, and do not feature Nouwen.

He is at his birthday party at Carol Plantinga Mead's home and is opening gifts, including "The Book of Tapestry", a coffee mug with multicoloured hearts, "The Way of the Heart" (by Nouwen), and a yellow stuffed heart that is around his neck. Nouwen is wearing a blue suit jacket and black and white plaid tie, and a Yale hat. Back of photograph contains annotation in two different hands, the first reading: "Henri's birthday party - Jan. 1981", and the second reading: "(49 years old)".

  • P3440: Photograph of Carol Plantinga Mead, Henri Nouwen, and John Mogabgab. They are all outside near trees. Mead and Nouwen are seated facing away from the camera and smiling. Mogabgab is standing to the right of them facing in the same direction. There are guitars in the grass to his left. They were at a worship service at Swarthmore College.   • P3442: Photograph of Henri Nouwen's father, Laurent J.M. Nouwen's, home in winter. Photo was taken from far away, so some of the surrounding forest can be seen. Photograph was sent to Mead by Laurent J.M. Nouwen, and contains a note by him on the verso of the photograph. Photograph contains annotation by Laurent Nouwen: "The everlasting winter 1983/4. [?] for an old man, like me! Laurent Nouwen. Geysteren. 19/3/85." Note is signed.

Video of photographs of Henri Nouwen

File consists of one DVD featuring a slideshow of photographs taken by Ron van den Bosch. Many of the photographs are from a visit to the Circus Barum. Some photographs feature Henri Nouwen, in three photographs he is on the trapeze. There are some black and white photographs of Nouwen, possibly taken in the 1960s, featuring Nouwen at the beach and in an academic hall in Holland (these are located at time mark 9:47 to 12:55). There are some particularly good photographs of Nouwen deep in conversation with a friend among these photographs. Nouwen is likely in his 30s. A photograph of the Flying Rodleighs during a performance is at 10:28.

File consists of four black and white photographs of Nouwen with Elaine Davey Eskesen and her son Eric. The series of photographs was taken at Yale Divinity School in 1981.

File consists of six photographs of Henri Nouwen from the collection of Fr. Xavier (Javier) Hinojosa Rodriguez. Rodriguez was a long-time friend of Nouwen's. Rodriguez and Nouwen corresponded from 1989 until 1996.

Henri Nouwen Society event photographs

File consists of photographs and cards sent to the Henri Nouwen Society of various unidentified Nouwen retreats. Wendy Greer is featured in a few of the photographs of unidentified retreats. One photograph is of Henri Nouwen and others from a 1994 retreat at the Holy Redeemer Church in Thornhill. The back of this photograph has a handwritten note by Errol Stein identifying those in the image.

Photographs of Henri Nouwen's funeral

File consists of photographs of Nouwen's funerals and also contains memorial prayer cards. 95 photographs are of the funeral that took place at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Markham, Ontario on September 28, 1996. These photographs were printed by Josko Photography Studio.

3) Photographs lent to Michael Ford for use in Wounded Prophet
File consists of photographs lent to Michael Ford for use in Wounded Prophet. The majority of the photos were taken during Henri Nouwen’s 1993 trip to the Ukraine. Nouwen is seen leading a retreat; meeting with Ukrainian community members; signing books; and visiting various unidentified locations. Travel companions Nathan Ball and Borys Gudziak appear in several of the photos. Also included is a photo of Nouwen, wearing a tan sweater over a white shirt, talking to someone off camera and gesturing with his right hand.

Nathan Ball photographs

File consists of photographs of Nouwen at various events and of Nouwen's funeral in Holland. There are two copies of many photographs from the funeral. Included in the funeral photos are Jean Vanier, Sue Mosteller, Gord Henry and several Nouwen family members: Laurent J.M. Nouwen, Paul Nouwen, Laurent Nouwen, Laurien Nouwen, Sarah Nouwen, and Marc van Campen. Other photographs are of Nouwen and Ball at an assistant's weekend; Nouwen and Jean Vanier at Holy Cross Church; Nouwen performing Janet Whitney Brown's first communion; and Nouwen's grave.

File consists of five photographs of Henri Nouwen. Four of the photographs are black and white and from Daybreak's 25th anniversary celebration at Convocation Hall with Jean Vanier. The colour photograph is of Henri Nouwen with two young Dutch assistants at Centre St. Two of the individuals in the colour photograph were identified as Gemma and Janice Byrne.
