The archives contain a range of documentation relating to the foundation, history, and activities of the University of Toronto Scarborough. The materials have been arranged largely by originating department or by medium in the case of publications, photographs, clippings, architectural plans, and artifacts. University of Toronto Governing Council

Series A, University of Toronto Governing Council, covers the years 1963 through 2002. The Governing Council is the highest governing body of the University of Toronto. In 1963, the Governing Council drafted A Provisional Plan for Two Off-Campus Colleges in the University of Toronto, which established Scarborough College (later UTSC) and also Erindale College (later the University of Toronto Mississauga, or UTM). The series includes correspondence and address lists for various council members, by-laws for the council, and council minutes from 1973 to 2002. Also included are documents relating to the opening of the College in 1964 for extension courses and the formal opening in 1966. Materials regarding the design and construction of the College, including architectural drawings, are included as well, since the Governing Council oversaw the construction of the initial buildings.

Description: Plan of two laboratory types for Scarborough College.
Medium/material: Black ink, blueprint, felt tip marker and pencil on paper (blueprint with hand-drawn additions).
Colour: Black, red, blue, green.

Signature: Architect's name handwritten by title (two instances). Inscription: Stage 1 1965 by John Andrews; [building identification].
Physical condition: Bueprinting very faded; felt tip faded; edges have been taped.

Description: Plan for off-site storage space for the library on the second floor of "House 3290 Ellesmere", indicating the placement of shelving.

File includes correspondence of Principal A.F.W. Plumptre. Topics include UTSC Information Systems, clippings of publications featuring UTSC, and some correspondence with Erindale College. Principal A.F.W. Plumptre - Correspondence [2/3]

File includes correspondence of Principal A.F.W. Plumptre. Topics include ongoing discussion of UTSC library facilities, the Scarborough College Financial Campaign and a summary of the notable attributes of UTSC from October of 1967. See also:

Principal

The subseries B.1 Principal covers the years 1963 to 1993 and 2004. The Principal of the University of Toronto Scarborough is the chief executive and chief academic officer of the university. The Principal is also a vice-president of the University of Toronto. The materials in this subseries were gathered during the administrations of the following Principals: A.F.W. Plumptre (1965-1972), D.R. Campbell (1972-1975), A.D. Allen (1976), J.E. Foley (1976, 1978-1984), S.J. Colman (1981), G.R. Williams (1984-1989), Paul Thompson (1989-1993), and Kwong-loi Shun (2004-2006). The files mostly comprise professional correspondence and other documents issued directly from the principal.
