The bulk of the material was created by the Canadian Bata company, however many records relate to several of the oraganization’s international outposts, including companies headed in Africa, India, Asia and Europe. The collection also includes press clippings and other publications about the Bata Company and its historical significance. There are also a small number of Bata family records, primarily for Thomas J. Bata (1914-2008), Sonja I. Bata, Tomáš Baťa (1876-1932) and Marie Bata.

Box also contains typed version of manuscript (69 pages). Typed manuscript was prepared by Janet Cartwright and Catherine Caufield (Saville’s nieces) and features a photograph of Miriam Saville.
Miriam Saville was a diabetic patient treated by Dr. Charles Best in the late 1920s/early 1930s when she was about thirteen years old, see mention of Dr. Best (“Dr. Charles”) on page 5 of both the holograph journal and typed version. First chapter of typed manuscript is titled: ‘Diagnosis and Dr. Best.’

Collection consists of detailed letters written by Kathleen ‘Doy’ Stewart, primarily to her parents, with some letters written to her brothers and friends, while traveling in Europe from October 1928 to August 1929, with her friend Kathleen Sutton. During the trip, Stewart stayed in Paris from October 1928 to March 1929, before visiting the South of France and Italy, and then staying in Heidelberg from May to July 1929. After Heidelberg, Stewart traveled through Germany, Netherlands and Belgium before returning to Paris at the end of August 1929 to journey back to Canada. Collection contains a small amount of letters written by Kathleen Sutton and letters that were written jointly by Kathleen Stewart and Kathleen Sutton. Papers also includes two letters from a subsequent trip, where she visited Romania and Yugoslavia, in 1932.

Collection of 190 pieces of vellum in Greek and Latin illustrating the history and development of handwriting from the 4th century until the end of the Middle Ages. Items 1-21 (which are Coptic in origin) illustrate the development of uncial writing from the beginning up to its decline in Egypt in the 9th century. All leaves, with the exception of items 106 and 170 are mounted; items 62-90 and 113-169 are bound volumes.

They range in date from the thirteenth to the nineteenth centuries, and detail the lives of these families both in Great Britain and in Canada.

The Atkins Family Papers

A collection of papers pertaining to the Tinkler, Barnard, and Atkins families of England. The exact relationship between the Tinkler family and the Barnard/Atkins family remains unknown, although the papers related to Tinklers have been preserved together with those of the other families for several generations. The first box includes the military correspondence of Robert Barnard (d. 1854) from Ireland during the great famine year of 1847 as well as his letters from the Crimean War. The second box includes the military correspondence of Sir John Atkins, KCMG, KCVO, FRCS (1875-1963) from his year of service in the Boer War, as well as materials related to his career as a medical officer in the First World War. Boxes 3-5 reflect the life and career of Sir Hedley John Barnard Atkins, KStJ, KBE (1904-1983), first professor of surgery at Guy’s Hospital, London and President of the Royal College of Surgeons. He specialised in the scientific treatment of breast cancer and the Hedley Atkins Breast Unit at New Cross Hospital acknowledges his contribution in the field. From 1971 to 1973 he was President of the Royal Society of Medicine.

The first series, Personal Files & Ephemera, includes agendas, books, guest books, rehearsal schedules, tour books, photographs, correspondences, T-shirts, business cards, magazines, photo CDs, and a personal hard drive. It also contains condolences related to, and a DVD recording of, Israelievitch's funeral.

The second series, Video, includes concert performances, rehearsal videos, prepared remarks for a speech to the Alliance française, and photographs. One video documents a Toronto Symphony Orchestra strike; another commemorates Israelievitch's 2008 retirement.

The third series, Audio, includes concert performances, university master class recordings, radio dubs. Some performances were taped at University of Toronto's Hart House; some others were taped with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

The fourth series, Jacques Israelievitch - 50th Birthday Concert, includes photographs, concert programs, scrapbooks, invitation flyers, and handwritten letters. It also contains books containing original music written by Danny Rubin, Ruth Watson Henderson, Raymond Luedeke, and R. Murray Schafer, specifically for the occasion.

Most are anonymous but some titles attributed to authors such as Hannah More, Daniel Defoe, Robert Burns, John Bunyan, James Hogg and Allan Ramsay. Many of the titles are illustrated wtih woodcuts.

The collection consists of letters and documents concerning the van der Smissen family in Germany and Canada. The correspondence includes letters to Jacob Gysbert van der Smissen from Johann Lavator, a Reformed minister in Zurich, from Johann Heinrich Jung-Stilling, an eminent theological writer, and from Carl Heinrich von Bogatzky, an influential and prolific Lutheran writer in Germany. The remaining letters are primarily family correspondence, along with a family history, a travel journal, and the sermons of Wilhelm Leendert. It also includes W.H. van der Smisson's English translation, in the original metres, of Goethe's Faust.

Collection consists of forms relating to the civil and military governments of Upper and Lower Canada. Most are printed and completed in manuscript, some in manuscript only. Many forms document the salaries and pensions paid by the Province of Quebec (later Lower Canada). Two (1815 and 1817) are for Upper Canada. These are filed as "disbursements"; military payments as "warrants"; others include: receipts, powers of attorney, military "ordinaries" and "extraordinaries", etc
There are a variety of signatures on each document, including those of the governor, secretary, recipient or attorney for the recipient, etc. Only a few were definitely printed in Canada: byT.Cary and Co and by J. Neilson in Quebec. There is no imprint on most of them-they could have been printed in Canada.

George M. Wrong Family fonds

This fonds consists of Professor Wrong's academic and professional papers as well as family records relating to George M. Wrong's family as well as those of his in-laws, the Edward Blake family. Among Prof Wrong's professional correspondence with fellow historians, and with politicians of the day such as Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Sir Robert Borden, MacKenzie King; and others. Also included are the manuscripts of some of G. M. Wrong's essays and books, concerning Canadian and Commonwealth history. It also contains records relating to the Armstrong and Wrong families including postcards collected during trips overseas to Europe, England, China and Japan, photographs and family histories by G. M.Wrong ca 1938-1948 and by Dr. Norman Wrong in the 1970’s and donated in 1975.

Family records document three generations of the Wrong family predominantly, but also including Margaret Blake (wife of Edward Blake), her daughter, Sophia and wife of George Wrong, their children Margaret (Marga), Murray, Hume, Harold and Agnes, and their cousin, Gerald Edward Blake. Margaret Wrong was a leader in the student Christian movement and missionary educator in Africa. Murray Wrong was Commonwealth historian at Oxford University. Hume Wrong was lecturer in history at the University of Toronto and later diplomat and specialist in Canadian-American relations. Harold Wrong and, his cousin, Gerald Blake were students at the University of Toronto who died in World War I. Agnes Wrong Armstrong was a leader of the Junior League movement in Canada and the United States.

The records include diaries, certificates, correspondence, student papers, articles and poems, press clippings, photographs, and medals. Letters to and from the Wrong family members predominate, especially between George and Sophia and between them and their children. They document a wide range of family matters and the careers, activities, and ideas of the correspondents, along with letters of condolence and tributes on the deaths of some of them. Margaret Wrong’s files include the reports and letters she wrote while with the World Students’ Christian Federation and the International Committee of Christian Literature for Africa.

This collection includes over 120 Canadian broadsides and printed blanks, predominantly pre-Confederation items from the Province of Quebec. Included are legal or judicial documents, including summons from the Quebec Court of Common Pleas, affidavits, court notices, warrants, property agreements, deeds of land sale and land applications; and military documents such as service records and return of provisions forms. Municipal printed forms issued from the City of Montreal or City of Quebec include building permits, house and property assessments, business tax assessments, and bills/receipts for water and gas rental. There are also cashier’s cheques and purchase receipts issued by the Bank of Montreal and Bank du Peuple. Among the numerous receipts gathered in the collection are those for shipping; college payments; church membership and pew rental; insurance premiums, including Alliance Life, Phoenix Fire Insurance, and the Quebec Fire Office; merchants James Ferrier, Moss & Brothers, and Robertson, Masson, Strange & Co.; post office rental; and payments issued to surveyors working under Alphonso Wells, Provincial Surveyor. Other material includes public notices, religious items such as prayer cards and church tickets, and ephemera from the St. Jean-Baptiste Society. A significant part of the collection is comprised of items relating to the early printing, publishing, and book-selling industry in Quebec. There are a number of bills and receipts issued for advertisements printed in the Montreal Gazette, Quebec Mercury, L’Aurore des Canadas, la Minerve, Montreal Herald, and Moniteur Canadien, as well as from Booksellers and Stationers such as Armour and Ramsay and William Neilson.
