Letters from Barbara Annan

File consists of a letter from Barbara Annan addressed to Joe Egan, a letter to Annan from Beth Porter, the Assistant's Coordinator at L'Arche Daybreak and a note from Connie Ellis, Nouwen's Assistant.

Letters from L'Arche Daybreak

File consists of letters from members of the L'Arche Daybreak community, including:
Joe Egan, John David Guido, members of The Green House, and a typed reflection on life at Daybreak by Susie (last name unknown). Includes the original letter sent to Nouwen by Joe Egan inviting him to live at Daybreak, (although it is dated December 4, 1985, It is attached to letters from 1986), as well as a map and directions to Daybreak, and a schedule of priorities for the community for the 1986-87 year. Materials have been annotated "file: Daybreak".

L'Arche Audiovisual Collection

Collection consists of audiovisual materials featuring recordings of events given by and used by members of l'Arche International/Internationale. This material includes 1708 audio cassettes, 37 videocassettes, 8 film reels, and 78 audio reels. Much of the material features recordings created at L'Arche retreats internationally, such as the Covenant Retreat, Renewal Retreat, and Faith and Light Retreat. Prominent speakers include Jean Vanier, Henri Nouwen, Joe Egan, Robert Larouche and Sue Mosteller.

The majority of the audio files feature Jean Vanier, usually speaking at retreats. The film reels are recordings made and collected by L'Arche Daybreak, and feature a CBC film on Daybreak (from 1970), pilgramages and trips made by Faith and Light and Daybreak. There is also a film reel of Jean Vanier.

Collection has been arranged into eight series:

  7. Other events, talks, and speakers
  8. Audio reels and film reels

Collection also includes a binder which functioned as a catalogue for many of the cassettes that were housed at l'Arche Daybreak until 2004 and 2006. This binder is located in series 7.

L'Arche Daybreak (Association)

Letters from L'Arche

File consists of letters and newsletters from various members of the L'Arche community, in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Haiti, Honduras, including a copy of a long typed letter from Joe Egan of L'Arche Daybreak, inviting Nouwen to join their community.

Letters from Rosie Tatum

File consists of typed letters to Rosie Tatum from Nouwen from 1994 regarding Hank Tatum's health and his passing. One letter is addressed to Mary and Joe Egan. Rosie Tatum is Joe Egan's mother-in-law.

Letter from Kathy Bruner

File consists of a letter from Kathy Bruner. File also includes copies of two long, typed letters from Nouwen: one to Bruner, Joe and Mary Egan, and Joan and Robin Hurst regarding preparing their children for their First Communion, and one addressed to Patrick Egan, Timmy Bruner, and Laura Hurst (the children) describing the Eucharist.

Letter from Joe and Mary Egan

File consists of one greeting card from Joe and Mary Egan, writing to thank Nouwen for sending a copy of "Can You Drink the Cup" and saying that it was special that Nouwen wrote the book in memory of Adam Arnett. The card is also inviting Nouwen to come to their home for dinner soon.
