Photographs

Series consists of photographs of Alexandra Johnston, including various portraits; a photo of Johnston presenting an achievement gift to Iris French, wife of President Goldwin French, 1986; a portrait of the class of 1961's 25th anniversary spring reunion, 1986; convocations, 1985, 1991; and documentation of her induction into the Royal Society, 1997.

Student records

Series consists of several subseries which include records from Cobourg: One subseries contains Registers, Directories, Marks, 1837-1946. The remaining subseries consist of student record cards. These cards often contain a photo of the student.

Records of the Campus Life Committee and preceding committees

Series consists of minutes of the Committee on Residence and Services (later the Campus Life Committee), correspondence, records related to budget matters, and reports of the Secretary.
Series also contains sub-series consists of the Records of the Burwash Hall and Men's Residence Committee, which preceded the Committee of Residence and Services, and the Wymilwood Management Committee (Student Union).

Series consists of records of committees concerned with events and special occasions including opening of the Emmanuel College building, the retirement of the Chancellor and installation of the new Chancellor, as well as anniversary events for the Centenary and the Sesquicentennial. The series is broken down into sub-series.

Records of committees and task forces concerned with planning

Series consists of the records of various incarnations of the Planning Committee as well as the records of the Implementation Committee and it's sub-committees as well as the records of the Task Force on the Future of Victoria University. Also consists of the Report of the Planning Task Force which was used by the Implementation Committee to guide it's activities and goals. The series is divided into 3 sub-series.

Series consists of the records of the Nominating Committee, the Appointments Committee and records of the combined Nominating and Appointments Committee, later the Nominating, Appointments and Governance Committee.

Records of the Pension Committee

Series consists of records of the Pension Committee and records of the Pension Trustees who were responsible for Victoria University's two pension plans prior to the establishment of the Committee in 1990. Records include minutes, reports, copies of benefit plans and supporting records.

Series consists of minutes, correspondence, reports, and supporting records of the Finance and Property Committee. Series also contains one file of Minutes from the Financial Management and Planning Committee, the successor of the Finance and Property Committee.

Records of Advisory Committees on the Chancellorship

Series consists of the records of various advisory committees appointed to nominate the Chancellor and to study the role of the Chancellorship. Includes minutes, correspondence, reports, nominations and biographical information on candidates.

Records of the Board of Regents

Series consists of 5 sub-series that include the records created by the Board of Regents (minutes, reports, notes) and its preceding entity, the Victoria College Board as well as the records of the Chairman of the Board and the Secretary of the Board. Also contains records received by the Board including correspondence and reports and records related to arbitration related to the move from Cobourg to Toronto.

Records related to buildings and grounds

The Bursar's responsibilities with regard to property were initially the insurance of buildings and their contents. However, as the need for regular income became more urgent and evident, and as the University expanded and required more buildings, the Bursar's work likewise increased. The Bursar became responsible for the legal negotiations and accounting over purchases, sales and leases; and the supervision and funding of alterations and renovations and the construction of new buildings. Along with this, the Bursar dealt with property tax as the University was only exempt from this in respect to its property used for academic purposes.

Series consists of correspondence, studies, reports, appraisals, financial administration, agreements, plans, specifications and other records relating to the planning, expansion, renovating, maintenance, repair and construction work on campus buildings and grounds, as well as the establishment and funding of Victoria Theatre, the Isabel Bader Theatre, and the Vic Tennis Club.

The architectural drawings and plans are available in series 23.

Records related to general administration

Series consists of general administrative files of the Bursar's office, general correspondence files, 1846–1984; and files containing correspondence, reports, notes, flow charts and other records regarding administrative restructuring and business with other senior administrative officers. Also contains records of activities and functions of which the Bursar was involved, including the oversight of Book Bureau, etc.

Records related to Theological Education

Consists of correspondence, financial statements and other records relating predominantly to students who were candidates for the ordained ministry in the United Church, as well as academic staff who were United Church ministers, 1925-1984.

Also includes correspondence relating to the initial funding of the Toronto School of Theology and Emmanuel College's involvement, as well as the Kaplan Fund, 1969-1991.

Records relating to staff and human resources

Series consists of correspondence, personnel position descriptions, salaried job positions and other records relating to salaries, insurance schemes and pensions of all the staff at the University, 1940-1990; personnel files, including pension material, 1932, 1955-2005; and salaried position descriptions, reviews and related correspondence and other records, 1989-2008.

Also contains one sub-series with records related to Health and Safety

Records related to real estate

Series consists of correspondence, leases and other legal agreements, court documents, surveys, deeds, mortgage records, sketches, financial and other records, 1871-2009, relating to the administering of properties owned by Victoria and not used for academic purposes, and for maintaining Victoria's interest in property developments which affected the University. The records relate to insurance, including liability, and the planning and development, management and leasing, acquisition and sales of property, taxes, property disputes and litigation.

The architectural plans and drawings have been separated into Series 23.

Series consists of records related to the University's finances and investments. Included are account books and ledgers, financial journals, financial daybooks, cash books, subscription books for fund raising, and other financial record books. Also includes some miscellaneous financial records as well as those related to the Pension Plan, annual financial statements and reports, procedure manuals, and budgets as well as financial oversight of student organizations.

Also consists of correspondence, minutes and articles relating to social responsibility in investments for the United Church of Canada and affiliated or related institutions, as well as policies and guidelines for investments and endowment spending.

Records related to events

Series consists of correspondence, programs, guest lists and other records relating to special events, predominantly installations, 1931–1981. Series also consists of addresses, statistics and other records relating to a one-day open conference entitled “Give Us This Day,” 1981.

Records relating to art holdings and artifacts

Series consists of lists of works of art owned by Victoria, with valuations; correspondence relating to insurance coverage and claims, arrangements for the loan of paintings for exhibition; correspondence with artists concerning exhibitions and commissions; and records relating to the Picture Loan Society and Portraits Committee. Series also consists of correspondence and lists relating to donations and loans of artefacts, including the machine gun of Thain W. MacDowell and records relating to the removal of the iron-creek meteorite from the Royal Ontario Museum to the Alberta Provincial Museum. Series also contains correspondence and other records relating to the commissioning of the design of the Prince Philip Medal in 1963.

Records relating to archives

Series consists of correspondence, reports, draft agreements, discussion papers relating to the location of the Archives; budget and staffing proposals, and records relating to construction, maintenance and renovations, 1953-1986; and correspondence, reports, financial records, minutes, notes, statistics and other records relating to the termination of the United Church archives from the University, 2004-2009

Records relating to advertising and publicity

Consists of correspondence, advertisements, proofs and accounts relating to advertising for lectures, convocations and special events as well as for general advertisement and publicity for the University with no direct financial gain anticipated as a result. Also included are correspondence, legal agreements, photographs and other records relating to the history and development of the University coat of arms and crest.

Mary Horney

Contains memorabilia surrounding Mary's student days at Victoria. Also includes correspondence with the University and with fellow graduates documenting their work and planning for reunion events.
