Academy Symphony Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Academy Symphony Orchestra of the Vancouver Academy of Music (formerly the Community Music School of Greater Vancouver, founded in 1969). This orchestra gives three concerts a year with guest conductors at the Orpheum Theatre. Victor Feldbrill was a repeat conductor.

Camerata performances

Subseries consists of recordings of the instrumental ensemble Camerata, predominantly from CBC broadcasts. Performers include: Elyakim Taussig and Kathryn Root, piano; Suzanne Shulman, flute; James Campbell, clarinet; Coenraad Bloemendal, cello; Adele Armin, violin; and Paul Armin, viola.

Canada Series

Subseries consists of scores and parts for arrangements by Phil Nimmons for the 13-episode CBC radio program "Canada Series" with Morris Surdin.

Canadian orchestras

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill guest-conducting various orchestras in Canada, including: Banff Youth Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, Edmonton Symphony, McGill Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Royal Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Subseries also includes a recording of Feldbrill playing violin in the Senior School Quartet at the Toronto Conservatory of Music.

CBC Concert Party

Subseries consists of scores and parts by Phil Nimmons for the "CBC Concert Party," a series of performances to the United Nations Emergency Force, organized and produced by Ken Dalziel. The performances were filmed and aired on CBC television. Phil Nimmons and Nimmons 'N' Nine participated in the following tours:

Subseries consists of correspondence and contracts between New Music Concerts (NMC), the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), and Radio Canada International (RCI) regarding the recording and broadcast of NMC concerts.

CBC Stage 52

Subseries consists of scripts, scores, and parts for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) radio series Stage 52, which aired on Sunday nights. Phil Nimmons regularly wrote incidental music for radio plays broadcast on this program.

CBC Wednesday night

Subseries consists of scripts, scores, and parts for the weekly radio program "CBC Wednesday Night," later rebranded "CBC Wednesday Night" and finally "CBC Tuesday Night". Phil Nimmons regularly wrote incidental music for radio plays broadcast on this program.

Choral manuscript music

Subseries consists of blueprint-style manuscripts, manuscripts written in ink or pencil, and copies of blueprint scores. Most of the manuscripts are Leslie Bell's arrangements of popular songs, show tunes, hymns, and other songs, with some original compositions. Information about the original composers, intended ensembles, dates, and where and when the songs were performed is not consistently recorded in the manuscripts' heading. The manuscripts are generally autographed with one of the following: Leslie Bell, Leslie Richard Bell, L.B., or L.R.B. The arrangements are predominantly for the Leslie Bell Singers (originally the Alumnae Singers), formed in 1939.

Classical sheet music

Subseries consists of classical sheet music, predominantly performed by Harry and Ida "Claudette" Culley as part of their piano duo, the Black and White Spotters. With the exception of occasional pieces for solo instrument and piano; and published arrangements for two pianos, four hands, the sheet music is mainly for solo piano, with some manuscript second piano parts written out by Harry Culley. The sheet music includes annotations and alterations for performance, and most include precise timings. The Culley's performed regularly on radio shows from the 1930s to 1950s and would have to fill a set amount of time. These timings would have helped them select their repertoire for each show. The subseries also contains some orchestral parts, which were likely used by Harry Culley when he was conductor of the Royal York Orchestra (1929-1930) or Music Director at the Royal Alexandra Theatre (1948-1955). Subseries also includes vocal sheet music used by Ida (Fernley) Culley during her time demonstrating pianos in the warerooms of local piano retailers and manufacturers, and collections of etudes used by Harry Culley for lesson books as a child.

Clippings and publications

Subseries consists of press clippings and publications related to Kathleen Parlow's life and musical career. Subseries includes magazines, as well as loose newspaper and magazine articles. Notable topics in these clippings and publications include performance reviews, articles about Kathleen Parlow's arm injury and recovery.

Communications committee

Subseries consists of minutes, notes, and a draft communications plan for the 2004-2005 concert season. The Communications Committee was established (along with the Executive Committee and committees for Finance, Management and Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Education, Volunteer, Program, and Nominating) in an amendment to Esprit Orchestra's By-Laws (1989).

Subseries includes both incoming and outgoing correspondence.

Creative sparks

Subseries consists of records, including correspondence, notes, rough stage plans, and rehearsal schedules, for the Esprit Orchestra educational programme "Creative Sparks". Creative Sparks provides hands-on performance and composition opportunities for students, who are mentored by composers. Their compositions are showcased in Esprit's New Wave Composers Festival each year.

Early Russian recordings

Subseries contains correspondence, research notes, and discographies on various early Russian singers and recordings, predominantly from before the Russian Revolution. John Stratton had a particular interest in these recordings and sponsored various re-releases through Historic Masters.

Education committee

Subseries consists of copies of the Education Committee's reports to the Board of Directors, particularly as pertains to the Towards a Living Art (TALA) program. The Committee was established (along with the Executive Committee and committees for Finance, Management and Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, Volunteer, Program, and Nominating) in an amendment to Esprit Orchestra's By-Laws (1989).

Executive committee

Subseries consists of meeting agendas and minutes for the Executive Committee of Esprit Orchestra. The Executive Committee was made up of the President, Past President, 2 Vice Presidents, Corporate Secretary, and Treasurer. The Committee was established (along with committees for Finance, Management and Strategic Planning, Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, Volunteer, Program, Education, and Nominating) in an amendment to Esprit Orchestra's By-Laws (1989).
