Academy Symphony Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Academy Symphony Orchestra of the Vancouver Academy of Music (formerly the Community Music School of Greater Vancouver, founded in 1969). This orchestra gives three concerts a year with guest conductors at the Orpheum Theatre. Victor Feldbrill was a repeat conductor.

Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO). Feldbrill wsa the music conductor and principal conductor of HPO from 1990 to 1996.

Lyric Chamber Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Lyric Chamber Orchestra in Coral Springs, Florida. The orchestra was made up of retired professional and senior amateur string players. They performed twice a year at St. Lucy Catholic Church in Highland Beach.

National Arts Centre Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO). Feldbrill appeared as a guest conductor with NACO throughout his career, and conducted their 32-city tour in 1992.

National Youth Orchestra of Canada

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the National Youth Orchestra of Canada (NYO). Feldbrill was the resident conductor of NYO in 1960-62 and in 1964, 1969, and 1975.

Tokyo University of the Arts

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting various ensembles at the Tokyo University of the Arts, including the Tokyo Geidai Philharmonia, various student orchestras, the Geidai Brass Wind Ensemble, and the Geidai Chorus. Feldbrill was the first Canadian guest conductor at the Tokyo National University of Art and Music, where he spent three months in 1979. After this, it became an annual association until his appointment as professor in 1981 and principal conductor of the Geidai Philharmonia in 1982. During this time, he was also guest conductor of various orchestras throughout Japan. He retired from the University in 1987.

Toronto Symphony Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO). Feldbrill made his debut conducting the TSO on March 30, 1943, performed with them as first violinist (1949-1956), assistant conductor (1956-1957), resident conductor (1973-1978), and guest conductor.

Materials regarding Thomas Merton

Sub-series consists of materials collected by Nouwen related to Thomas Merton. Sub-series includes newspaper articles, mimeographed letters from Merton, several copies of Merton’s manuscripts and several of Merton’s commercially produced audio cassette recordings of his talks to the monks and community of the Abbey of Gethsemani. Sub-series also contains Nouwen’s own records of the materials he collected on Merton. Sub-series also includes materials relating to Merton’s death in 1968 and homilies of funeral services held in his honour.

Course lectures, handouts, reading, and student notes

Sub-series consists of bound volumes of materials and loose documents created and used by Nouwen for his teaching positions various academic institutions in both North America and Europe. This includes reading notes, preparation notes, lecture notes, typed lecture summaries, course handouts and syllabi, many of which are heavily annotated by Nouwen. It also includes lectures, letters, notes, assignments and course evaluations produced by Nouwen's students and teaching assistants. In addition to the course-specific bound volumes, there are two bound volumes that are labelled as "miscellaneous class material" that relate to Nouwen's early career from 1959 to 1976. This sub-series has been divided into 22 sub-sub series based on the course titles and subjects which Nouwen taught between 1961 and 1994, except for one sub-sub series involving the two-volume set of collected class materials mentioned above.

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO). Feldbrill founded the TSYO in 1974 and was its conductor until 1978.

Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill conducting the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO). Feldbrill was the principal conductor of WSO from 1958 to 1968.

Subseries contains recordings of Victor Feldbrill guest-conducting various orchestras in Canada, including: Banff Youth Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company, Edmonton Symphony, McGill Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Royal Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, South Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Subseries also includes a recording of Feldbrill playing violin in the Senior School Quartet at the Toronto Conservatory of Music.

Recordings of workshops

Subseries consists of audio and video recordings of Michael Colgrass' workshops, including workshops at Ohio State University and the University of Florida; John Grinder hypnosis with Michel Colgrass in New York City (January 31, 1982); rehearsals with "The President's Own" United States Marine Band for The Winds of Nagual (April 21, 1986); Excellence in Performance workshops (March 7, 1987; July 12, 1988; July 1990; and July 13, 1992); composer's symposium at the University of New Mexico, including performances of Fantasy-Variations, Memento, and Flashbacks (1989); and videos of Michael Colgrass and Hartford Professor Glen Adsit teaching graphic notation.

Collected audio cassettes

Sub-series consists of 54 audio cassettes collected by Nouwen. The sub-series contains commercial and non-commercial audio cassettes.

Transcripts, questionnaires, and recordings

Sub-series includes transcripts, questionnaires, and recordings from the Kurdish oral history project which Professor Hassanpour designed and led as part of his historiography of the Peasant Movement in Mukriyan Kurdistan.

Performances of music by Beethoven

Subseries consists of performances of violin and cello music by Ludwig van Beethoven by Elyakim (Peter) Taussig, piano, with Otto Armin, violin and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, violoncello. The performances are predominantly from a series of weekly concerts presented by the Hart House Music Committee and CBC Radio called "Beethoven at Hart", which presented Beethoven's complete works for violin and cello during February and March, 1978. Performances from the concert series were broadcast on CBC Arts National on Mondays from September 4, 1978 to November 6, 1978. Tapes are copies of the CBC broadcasts, and include introductory remarks.

Subseries also includes recordings from two concerts at Wilfrid Laurier University by Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, violoncello and Elyakim Taussig, piano, during which they performed Beethoven's sonatas for violoncello and piano (November 17, 1977 and December 1, 1977).

Camerata performances

Subseries consists of recordings of the instrumental ensemble Camerata, predominantly from CBC broadcasts. Performers include: Elyakim Taussig and Kathryn Root, piano; Suzanne Shulman, flute; James Campbell, clarinet; Coenraad Bloemendal, cello; Adele Armin, violin; and Paul Armin, viola.
