M.R. Appell Papers

Collection consists of correspondence, including letters from Nelson Ball, J.W. Curry and Douglas Henderson, as well as poetry booklets created by Appell and small press imprints and publications.

This fonds is divided into 5 series, divided by format. These are: Cinefilm, Video Materials, Audio Materials, Photographic Materials, Textual Records.

The first series, Cinefilm, contains original prints in both b&w and colour. It includes home movies, newsreels, as well as Spiess’s debut film Die Thomaner.

The second series, Video Materials, contains Digital Betacam cassettes. These include transfers of commercials, home movies, and Die Thomaner.

The third series, Audio Materials, includes soundtrack elements and radio commercials.

The fourth series, Photographic Materials includes behind the scenes photos of commercial shoots, family portraits, and glass negatives by Spiess’s father, Karl.

The fifth series, Textual Materials, includes papers relating to the formation of the first accrual of the Fritz Spiess archive. It also includes several periodicals that featured work by Spiess and technical literature about technologies of the day.

"Our Italian Front", with the following material tipped in: a letter from Charles Hamilton Mitchell, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, who was associated with the authors in Italy with British military intelligence during World War I, with a black and white photoprint of himself.

  • Pepper, George Wharton. "Philadephia Lawyer: an autobiography", with scattered paragraphs marked for special attention and the following material tipped in: Convocation programme for the conferring by the U of T of the degree of Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) on Senator Pepper, and a press clipping reviewing a similar autobiography, "Confessions of an Un-common Attorney", by Reginald L. Hines.

Fonds consists of the professional records of filmmaker, producer, and media consultant Midi Onodera. Including film shorts and feature films that consist of raw footage, outs, and masters, director’s reel, music cues, sound files, waivers, contracts, scripts, production binders, press kits, budgets, copyright information, funding applications, distribution information, cast & crew lists, CV’s, and biographical information. The MAC series includes production and promotional videos for fundraising events and yearly trends. Also includes Film Festival catalogues, Art & Film magazines, zines, newspapers, press clippings, promotional photographs and posters, film stills, publicity photographs, continuity photographs, negatives, and slides.

The Roy Kenner Fonds holds material from across Kenner’s many careers and musical endeavors. His career as a musician and vocalist is represented, with material from the 1960’s to the late 1970’s. Kenner’s voice over work in advertisement and jingles is also well represented. Textual and photographic records capture the many aspects of his life, and include contracts, set lists, promotional photography, notes, and scrapbooks he kept. This acquisition is divided into seventeen series. These series include:

The collection consists of three main items: posters, news and magazine clippings, and Radio Guide magazines. The posters are eclectic in taste, and focus on art, Indigenous rights, and advertisements. The Radio Guide material consists of supporting textual material like correspondence, reports, marketing strategies, and the magazines themselves. The news clippings come from a variety of sources.

This collection of Bevington’s papers contains a variety of material ranging from his time before Rochdale (albeit sparsely), his time at Rochdale, the founding of the Coach House Press, professional correspondence, materials relating to publications, and other business-related records. The papers contain much personal material relating to Bevington, including correspondence and invitations. Many of Bevington’s papers relating to Coach House Press business reside with Library and Archives Canada.

This collection, the first accession of Beth Follett’s Papers by the Fisher Library, consists of material – including manuscripts, proofs and correspondence – related to Follett’s small press imprint, Pedlar Press, which she founded in 1997. It also includes manuscript drafts for Follett’s first published novel, Tell it Slant (Toronto: Coach House Press, 2001), as well as other professional and personal material.

Accession 2008.014 is divided into 6 series according to format.
These are: Textual and Other Material, Photographic Material, Graphic Material, Audio Material, Video Material, and Artifacts.
The first series, Textual and Other Material, includes scripts related to Nelvana (scripts, business, legal records, development files,correspondence, personal diaries, notebooks and other production-related files). This series also includes 31 series bibles and over 500 books and periodicals.
The second series, Photographic Material, includes photographs related to the animation production process, as well as images of Nelvana staff at work and play.
The third series, Graphic Material, includes material from different parts of the production process (animation cells, backgrounds, and cleanups).
They include some of the best known and most valuable of such materials, including Tintin, Rupert, Babar and Dog City. This series also includes posters.
The fourth series, Audio Material, consists largely of commercial recordings used for research. This series also includes rough mixes for Nelvana productions.
The fifth series, Video Material, primarily consists of completed Nelvana programs, as well as different versions of productions in progress.
The sixth series, Artifacts, includes a number of promotional items (toys, stuffed animals, clothing, etc.) from Hirsh’s productions.

This fonds includes six series, divided by format. These are: Textual Material, Photographic Material, Audio Material, Video Material, Cinefilm/Cinex, and Artifacts.

The first series, Textual Material, is chiefly made up of scripts, storyboards, production files, research files, correspondence, meeting notes, equipment files, technical drawings, bylaws, cast/crew lists, contracts and proposals.

The second series, Photographic Material, represents all periods of Spiess’ career, from his early portraiture and fine art images to his industrial/commercial work to production stills documenting his cinematographic work. This series is divided into two subseries: PH.1239 & PH.610977 and PH.240609.

The third series, Audio Material, includes soundtrack production elements and music.

The fourth series, Video Material, includes high quality dubs of the various versions of the finished commercial productions, as well as production elements for those commercials shot on video.

The fifth series, Cinefilms/Cinex, includes finished release prints of the various commercials as well as a number of short films by Spiess.

The sixth series, Artifacts, consists of examples of the tools that Spiess used to teach his students, as well as mementos of his involvement with the CSC.

David Dunlap Observatory Scrapbook

David Dunlap Observatory scrapbook was prepared in 1934 by Jessie Donalda Dunlap for her son as a Christmas gift. The scrapbook contains letters, printed articles, clippings and photographs documenting the David Dunlap Observatory from its initial conception through it's construction and opening.

The Scrapbook, which measures 22" x 38" when open, was donated by the Dunlap family to the David Dunlap Observatory in 1968 where it resided in the main entrance of the Administration Building until 2008.

Woodhouse 2006 accession

Notebooks compiled by A.S.P. Woodhouse, primarily for teaching in English literaure at University College, University of Toronto. The emphasis is on 18th century literature (especially Romanticism) and the History of nineteenth century thought, in the undergraduate pass and honours program (largely the latter). Accompanying them is a selection of heavily annotated books by and about 19th century writers.
