2009.008 acquisition (Liberty Street / X-Rated)

Fonds consists of material pertaining to the production of the television pilot film X-Rated and the subsequent 11-episode series Liberty Street. The show ran from 1993 – 1995, and all 11 episodes were broadcast on CBC television. The collection consists of 157 boxes of material spanning all 11 episodes of the show. The fonds is divided into 2 series: Corporate Records and Post-Production Records.

The first series, Corporate Records, consists of 36 boxes. These include correspondence/memos, fan mail, budgets, scripts, promotional materials, financial and banking records, sponsor files, production and continuity stills, character files, legal documents, insurance documents, music cue sheets, and architectural drawings.

The second series, Post-Production Records, consists of 121 boxes. These include film negative, film transfers, raw shoot tapes, raw audio tapes, audio stems, voiceovers, music, master mix audio, edits, various masters, interview tapes and promo reels. There is also a complete set of both VHS and DVD screening copies of each episode. Textual documents include sound notes/charts, editing/mix notes and credits.

The material has retained its original arrangement.

2013.007 acquisition (Degrassi Junior High)

Fonds consists of material pertaining to three seasons of production of the half-hour television series Degrassi Junior High. The show ran from 1987 – 1989, and all 42 episodes were broadcast on CBC television. The collection consists of 148 of material spanning all 3 seasons of the show. The fonds is divided into 2 series: Corporate Records and Post-Production Records.

The first series, Corporate Records, consists of 29 boxes. These include correspondence/memos, fan mail, budgets, scripts, promotional materials, financial and banking records, sponsor files, production and continuity stills, character files, permits, legal documents, insurance documents, and music cue sheets.

The second series, Audiovisual Records, consists of 119 boxes. These include original negative, interpositive, A&B rolls, optical soundtrack, raw shoot tapes, raw audio tapes, audio stems, voiceovers, music, master mix audio, edits, various masters, and promo reels. Textual documents include sound notes/charts, editing/mix notes and credits.

Ham 2008 accession

Correspondence, diary, talk documenting the career of Dr James Ham, past University of Toronto president. Included is a copy of a diary from 1949 kept by Ham while traveling in England and Europe. There are also documents collected by his wife, Mary Ham, relating to her late husband's role in the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research.

Ham 2019 accession

Family photo album documenting James Ham's childhood into early adulthood including his time working for Ontario Hydro as a student and his time in the Navy during World War II. There is also one family trip diary describing a car trip he took with his wife Mary and their two children to the Northwest Territories in 1971. There are selected slides documenting his trip to the USSR in 1960. There is also a selection of colour slides taken during trips to Asia including an official Uof T trip to China in 1980 as well as a 2nd trip to China and Korea with Mary in 1982. Finally there are photos of the plaque unveiling to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Ajax Campus, 1994

Bissell 1988 accession

31 volumes of diaries and journals of Claude Thomas Bissell, covering the period from his third year as an undergraduate at the University of Toronto to the end of his presidency of the same university. No diary was kept for the period June, 1943 to August, 1945, during his military service during World War II with the Army in England and Northwest Europe. There are also no diaries for the years 1963-1965 in this accession.

Friedland 1st 2002 accession

Records compiled by Professor Martin Friedland in the researching and writing of his University of Toronto: A history (University of Toronto Press, 2002). Included are correspondence files, files on the structure of the project, research notes and material, drafts of the manuscript, correspondence relating to publication matters, addresses, photographs, audiotapes, books, pamphlets and other publications.

The records document how the project was conceived and carried out, including the evolution of the manuscript and discussions over the shaping of the book. One consequence was putting the footnotes on line, a first for the University of Toronto Press, and also issuing them in a separate hardcopy volume. The records document the major issues at the University and, by extension, in higher education in Ontario over more than 175 years. The research reports, correspondence from academics, university administrators and graduates from across North America, original material forwarded by individuals, and the commentaries by some sixty people who read the whole manuscript, together provide extra breadth and depth to this historical record of the University.
