Wrong Family 2004 accession

Records of three generations of the Blake/Wrong families, including Margaret Blake (wife of Edward Blake), her daughter and son-in-law, Sophia and George Wrong, their children [Margaret (Marga), Murray, Hume, Harold and Agnes] and Gerald Edward Blake. George Wrong was professor of history at the University of Toronto; Margaret Wrong, a leader in the student Christian movement and missionary educator in Africa; Murray Wrong, Commonwealth historian at Oxford University; Hume Wrong, lecturer in history at the University of Toronto and later diplomat and specialist in Canadian-American relations; Harold Wrong and Gerald Blake, students who were killed in World War I; and Agnes Wrong Armstrong, a leader of the Junior League movement in Canada and the United States.

The records include diaries, certificates, correspondence, student papers, articles and poems, press clippings, photographs, and medals. Letters to and from the Wrong family members predominate, especially between George and Sophia and between them and their children. They document a wide range of family matters and the careers, activities, and ideas of the correspondents, along with letters of condolence and tributes on the deaths of some of them. Margaret Wrong’s files include the reports and letters she wrote while with the World Students’ Christian Federation and the International Committee of Christian Literature for Africa.

Wrong Family 2003 accession

This accession consists of Professor Wrong's professional correspondence with fellow historians, and with politicians of the day such as Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Sir Robert Borden, MacKenzie King; and others. Also included are the manuscripts of some of G. M. Wrong's essays and books, concerning Canadian and Commonwealth history. 19th century documents relating to the Nairne family and collected by Wrong during his writing of "A Canadian manor and its seigneurs" were donated to the University Library in 1938 and bear the Library’s stamp.

This accession also contains some records relating to the Armstrong and Wrong families including postcards collected during trips overseas to Europe, England, China and Japan, photographs and family histories by G. M.Wrong ca 1938-1948 and by Dr. Norman Wrong in the 1970’s and donated in 1975. Family correspondence is limited to primarily the photocopied letters of Prof. Wrong to his son, Murray from 1908 to 1924.

Wrong Family 1980 accession

Photographs of members of the Wrong family including George M., E.Murray, Harold V. and H. Hume, in activities relating to their education at Upper Canada College, the University of Toronto, and to Harold's military training during the First World War. There is also a photo of the Wycliffe College students, 1885-1886.

Woodhouse 2006 accession

Notebooks compiled by A.S.P. Woodhouse, primarily for teaching in English literaure at University College, University of Toronto. The emphasis is on 18th century literature (especially Romanticism) and the History of nineteenth century thought, in the undergraduate pass and honours program (largely the latter). Accompanying them is a selection of heavily annotated books by and about 19th century writers.

Woodhouse 1984 accession

Papers of A.S.P. Woodhouse used for the posthumous publication of his book, "The Heavenly Muse: A Preface to Milton", with an introduction and annotations by Hugh MacCallum. Consist of lecture notebooks, addresses, drafts and printed copies of articles, and the MSS for "The Heavenly Muse".

Records in this accession consist of notebooks, manuscripts and typescripts, annotated offprints and articles, annotated books, some correspondence, a newspaper clipping about Woodhouse, and magazine articles written about Woodhouse.

W.J. Keith Papers

Correspondence from writers, mainly Canadian, including Hugh Hood, George Johnston, David Solway, John Metcalfe, Robertson Davies, Douglas Lochhead, Hugh Maclennan, Carmine Starnino, George Payerle, Janice Kulyk-Keefer and others. The letters from Laura Riding concern his editing at the University of Toronto Quarterly, 1976-1985. Some letters include a manuscript from the writer, or corrections to a manuscript. Lengthy files are from friends who write about personal and literary matters.

Correspondence files with writers, mainly Canadian, 1962 to 1993. Many ofthe letters, especially those from Laura Riding, concern Keith's editing ofthe University ofToronto Quarterly, 1976- 1985. Some correspondence includes a manuscript from the writer, or manuscript corrections to manuscripts. The lengthy files of correspondence with the Canadian writers and scholars, Hugh Hood, George Johnston, John Metcalfe, David Solway concern personal as well as literary matters.

W.J. Keith Papers

This collection, a continuation of W.J. Keith’s Papers (see also MS Coll 303 and MS Coll 391), consists of literary correspondence, Keith’s collected poetry, his notes on Hugh Hood’s 12-volume The New Age (as well as photographs related to Hugh Hood), books and pamphlets relating to the Powys Circle, along with other misc. pamphlets and other imprints.

William Arthur Deacon Correspondence

Series consists of correspondence sent and received by William Arthur Deacon on literary subjects, particularly in
regards to Canadian literature. Passive correspondence and carbon copies of active correspondence with authors, publishers, organizations and readers relates primarily to the professional activities of William Arthur Deacon, including the reviews he wrote for Saturday Night and The Mail and Empire (amalgamated as The Globe and Mail); his participation within literary organizations such as the Canadian Authors’ Association (C.A.A.); publicity for his own books; biographical information and photographs of Canadian authors.

Welsh 2012 accession

This accession consists of biographical information, certificates and diplomas, correspondence relating to Dr. Welsh’s employment as Chairman of the Department of Physics, with officials of the Order of Canada, his retirement, the H.L. Welsh Lectureship, and other honors. The collection also includes notes and outlines from four interviews done for the U of T Oral History Programme. The collection includes four photographs, several degrees, awards, certificates, and posters. This collection has been divided into three series based on the form and content of the records; 1) Correspondence and Biographical Material, 2) Degrees, Awards, and Certificates, and 3) Photographs.

This accession contains almost a complete run of graduating class composited for Woodsworth college. From 1976-2005 they are the original photographers layouts with original individual portraits and artwork. From 2005-2019, they are prints mounted on foam core.
Photographers over this time period include Ashley Crippen (1976-1981) Brian Toll (1981-1987) and Stephen Lassman (1977, 1987-2019).

Includes original minutes and agenda for the Presidential Advisory Committee on Accommodation and Facilities (1958-1980) and the Budget and Planning Secretariat (1992-1993 and 1996-1998). Also, consists of subject files pertaining to various University of Toronto colleges, centres, chairs, institutes, and departments. Further, there are also numerous reports and memoranda including the University of Toronto Tree Inventory, a planning report for the University of Toronto at Scarborough College (1963), the Marsden Report (1984), Recommendations for closure of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (1986), the St. George Revitalization Project (1995), and the Mississauga Master Plan (2000).

This accession contains material collected by the University College Archives. Most of the records have been collected and donated over the course of the College's existence, and range from personal records of prominent faculty members (Barker Fairley, George Needler, John McCaul), and various University College departments and committees, to more ephemeral and biographical reference material generally relating to the College. The accession also contains a large amount of photographs and sounds and moving images, as well as artifacts from the College.
