Collection of 190 Pieces of Vellum Illustrating the History and Development of Handwriting

Collection of 190 pieces of vellum in Greek and Latin illustrating the history and development of handwriting from the 4th century until the end of the Middle Ages. Items 1-21 (which are Coptic in origin) illustrate the development of uncial writing from the beginning up to its decline in Egypt in the 9th century. All leaves, with the exception of items 106 and 170 are mounted; items 62-90 and 113-169 are bound volumes.

London: Printed for Thomas Allman, 42, Holborn Hill, 1842. The small book is inscribed: "The first of my books A.H.R. (Alfred Henry Reynar). Given to me by my sister Marianne in 1847, A.H.R." Back page is signed Alfred H. Reynar (faded).

On the front of the medal there is a picture of Young Queen Victoria front, with word adorn in Latin that state: “Universitas Victoria Collegium Fundata A.D. 1941”. On the back there is a picture of a wreath, with words adorn in Latin that state” “Praemium A Celsissimo Alberto Edwardo Principe Wallia Institutum A.D. 1860”.

Trowel from laying of cornerstone of Old Vic. Inscription on top reads: "Presented to Mrs. Geo. A. Cox by the Regents of Victoria University on the Occasion of laying the Cornerstone in the Queens Park Toronto June the 15th A.D 1891"

George A. Cox held the title of Bursar (1885-1900), Co-Bursar/Co-Treasurer (1900-1907), and later Treasurer, at Victoria University (1907-1914).

C.F. Logan’s Oratory Medal, Faculty of Theology, Victoria University 1906

This medal was awarded to C.F. Logan in 1906 for "Oratory" in the Faculty of Theology at Victoria University. The Medal was a prized passion of his daughter Genevieve Logan of the Victoria College class of 1935. The medal was given back to Victoria after she passed away in the mid 1990s. It has been in the Registrar's Office for the past 15 years..."
