File consists of the manuscript score, sketches, and cue sheets for John Beckwith's incidental music for Margaret Atwood's The Journals of Susanna Moodie, written in 1972 and revised in 1990. The music is a collage incorporating 19th-century Canadian published music. It was commissioned by CBC Radio in 1972 and first broadcast that year with Mia Anderson as the reader and instrumentalists William Wright, John Beckwith, and John Wyre.
File contains text drafts, musical sketches, and correspondence, including letters from James Reaney, Margaret Atwood, Alvin Lee, and other conference organizers.
