L'Arche Trosly-Breuil fonds

Henri J.M. Nouwen was a close friend of Jean Vanier and was invited to join the L'Arche Trosly-Breuil and was an active member of their community from August 1985 to May 1986. His experiences at Trosly-Breuil are published in his work, "The Road to Daybreak". The fonds consists of eleven audio cassettes of lectures and retreats given by Nouwen. The fonds also contains one compact disc of photographs of various subjects, including Nouwen. The records range in date from 1985 to 2008.

L'Arche Trosly-Breuil (Association)

Faith and Sharing Bulletins

The series consists of Faith and Sharing bulletins for the years 1977 to 2012. The bulletins generally contain a short letter of introduction by the Secretary and the Co-ordinator of the Faith and Sharing Federation, agendas for retreats and lists of participants. After 1979 the newsletters contain the minutes of meetings for the Executive Committee. The bulletin often features letters written by attendees of the retreats regarding their experiences, regional news items and copies of letters written by Jean Vanier and other members of the Faith and Sharing Federation regarding their experiences and reflections on the work of the Faith and Sharing Federation and the L'Arche communities. Also included in the series are reports of accounting balance sheets for the bulletins for the years 1997 to 2011.

Sound recordings of Retreats

The series consists of sound recordings of Faith and Sharing retreats throughout North America between 1971 and 1993. The majority of the recordings feature retreat talks given by Jean Vanier, but contributions made by other Faith and Sharing members appear throughout.

Also includes the original draft of a letter written by Nouwen to his students at Boston College explaining his reasons for joining the L'Arche community, and a letter from Therese [Cecury?] giving Nouwen the address to her parents Paul and Marie Peeters in France (it has been annotated "file: Trosly").

Second file folder consists of reference material regarding Jean Vanier’s participation as the leader of the Vigil at the Lambeth Conference in Canterbury. Included is promotional material and articles about the event; copies of the transcripts from Vanier’s first and second vigils; and a copy of an August 1998 letter written by Vanier to the L’Arche International community in which he mentions the Lambeth Conference.
