Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Scotland in 1986.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I hope you did your homework. We will continue now from yesterday. First of all, that we recognize the brokenness, feelings and tensions where I want to grow but I don't think I can because something is holding me back. If I grow somebody close to me may be left behind or we can feel we have been thrust out and abandoned. Is there anyone who really loves me as unique? We all long for that happy tension where I know I am loved the way I am and to know I have the capacity to take responsibility for others.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I have been asked to speak about the call to grow today. I want to start with the question: "Do you know how important your life is?" "Can you believe that you can grow and change?" Based on that we can move into some things which will help us to know ourselves a bit better, to understand ourselves. And hopefully push us like a motor to become more.

Sue Mosteller, "From Disillusionment to Peace"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Scotland in 1986.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Today we are going to try to attempt something different. During the last two days we tried to deepen things we know to be true and to put words around our experience. I wonder now if it would be possible for us to try to listen more from our hearts? Maybe to process and deepen not so much from our intelligence but from our hearts. So you may not want to take notes today. It's much more an entering in to that place where we discover what is true at the level of our hearts.

It is usually simple and gentle, but it can cause fear in us. What is the cost being asked of me? Conf #7: The theme is sin, brokenness and reconciliation. When I thin of my sinfulness, the first feeling that comes to me is fear. Yet Jesus often says "Don't be afraid." But we often flee from any pain.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Conf #8: I am one of those people who Sue talked about this morning when called to look at the brokenness in my relationships, I don't like that---again! I also know that once I get past that initial feeling I am glad to spend time reflecting on that reality. Conf #9: The theme today is the Truth and the Life. The text is John 15 about the vine and the branches. The question is "Who are you, Jesus?" I would like to meet him, so stay in the retreat today. Let us enter this text and see what it means for us.

Side A: Conference 3, Tuesday morning, Kevin Cullen, S.J., "To be known by God" ; Side B: Conference 4, Tuesday afternoon, Sr. Sue Mosteller, "To know God"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a retreat for assistants at Morrow Park in Toronto, ON, from March 1-7, 1987.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Conf #3: To be known by God: The questions for today is how is it that we are known by God and how do we know God? They are intimate questions about our relationship. What has led me to God and to know god? Who or what helps me to know God? Conf #4: We will go on this afternoon to deepen the theme of to know God. Back in 1968 I was searching for something and was dissatisfied. Jean came to speak in Toronto and I was touched by his talk and then that summer went to his retreat at Marylake. I share that because searching and being called is important in our lives and should not be taken for granted.
