Sue Mosteller, "Authority and Conflict" (part 2)

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at l'Arche Renewal retreat events from June 25 - August 20, 1992, in England.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I want to start with the question of how we take everything home as this came up often in my talking with many of you. I want to start with adapting a gospel story after the resurrection. What is Jesus saying in this story that we need to listen to?

Sue Mosteller, "Authority, Obedience, and Conflict" (part 1) - August 14, 1992

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at l'Arche Renewal retreat events from June 25 - August 20, 1992, in England.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I want to talk about authority with you as you think about going back to your communities into your daily life. So the focus will be on us and what this means for us. Jean Vanier has said our communities will rise or fall on how authority is exercised. And I have lived to see that this is true. As we grow to become people who claim authority well, our communities can have a radiance. But when authority is not claimed or exercised well, there is a possibility of destruction, which I have also witnessed.

L'Arche Renewal 1992

Sue Mosteller, "Making Choices" (part 2) - Friday, July 29, 1988, A.M.

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at l'Arche Renewal retreat events from June 22 - August 23, 1988.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I want to talk about some myths and some truths today. Then try to put meaning on something we are talking about a lot which is life choice or vocation. And then the big questions about how to we live all of this??

Sue Mosteller, "Making Choices" (part 1) - Thursday, July 28, 1988, A.M.

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at l'Arche Renewal retreat events from June 22 - August 23, 1988.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Renewal helps us to try to get a perspective from where we stand about the world. That's why it is wonderful to have speakers from different countries which gives us something wider than just our culture. We are also called to look into our own interior. But often we don't want to look there at who am I and what's happening in my life and try to situate myself in front of my choices and how am I going to walk in my life. Where is my heart? Where do I give my energy? So important to reflect while here on renewal before we go back to our daily life where we don't have much opportunity for reflection. Reflection is critical because our lives, each of us, are so important!

Sue Mosteller, "From Disillusionment to Peace"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Scotland in 1986.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Today we are going to try to attempt something different. During the last two days we tried to deepen things we know to be true and to put words around our experience. I wonder now if it would be possible for us to try to listen more from our hearts? Maybe to process and deepen not so much from our intelligence but from our hearts. So you may not want to take notes today. It's much more an entering in to that place where we discover what is true at the level of our hearts.

Sue Mosteller, "Choosing to Grow"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Scotland in 1986.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I hope you did your homework. We will continue now from yesterday. First of all, that we recognize the brokenness, feelings and tensions where I want to grow but I don't think I can because something is holding me back. If I grow somebody close to me may be left behind or we can feel we have been thrust out and abandoned. Is there anyone who really loves me as unique? We all long for that happy tension where I know I am loved the way I am and to know I have the capacity to take responsibility for others.

Sue Mosteller, "Call to Grow?"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Scotland in 1986.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I have been asked to speak about the call to grow today. I want to start with the question: "Do you know how important your life is?" "Can you believe that you can grow and change?" Based on that we can move into some things which will help us to know ourselves a bit better, to understand ourselves. And hopefully push us like a motor to become more.

Sue Mosteller and Brian Halferty, "Stages of Growth" #3

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Spokane, WA, in 1983.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I feel a bit overwhelmed sitting here with Sue. If I am able to say something today, it's things from my own experience. I will share a few reflections and then Sue will speak too. Telling stories and remembering is really important in families, in L'Arche, etc. It can be hard to share some stories because there can be a lot of emotion at times. Yet it is amazing how much impact we have on one another.

Sue Mosteller and Brian Halferty, "Stages of Growth" #2

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Spokane, WA, in 1983.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Who can challenge me and call me to the "more?" when I get upset with others? Do I give others the permission to question me? Often I don't give that permission because I'm scared. I don't submit my story to anyone who doesn't think like I do. Who helps me stay in the truth and calls me to the "more"?

Sue Mosteller and Brian Halferty, "Stages of Growth" #1

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given at a l'Arche Renewal retreat in Spokane, WA, in 1983.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: The first two weeks of the Renewal were designed for us to get in touch with a lot of things, Now we are moving forward, which will help us see directions for the future. More time will be given which we will have to choose how to use. We have to chose the time to reflect! The groups are for sharing. Really listen to one another. This morning I am going to speak on human growth, We came here because we want to grow, but we often resist growth.
