L'Arche Audiovisual Collection

Collection consists of audiovisual materials featuring recordings of events given by and used by members of l'Arche International/Internationale. This material includes 1708 audio cassettes, 37 videocassettes, 8 film reels, and 78 audio reels. Much of the material features recordings created at L'Arche retreats internationally, such as the Covenant Retreat, Renewal Retreat, and Faith and Light Retreat. Prominent speakers include Jean Vanier, Henri Nouwen, Joe Egan, Robert Larouche and Sue Mosteller.

The majority of the audio files feature Jean Vanier, usually speaking at retreats. The film reels are recordings made and collected by L'Arche Daybreak, and feature a CBC film on Daybreak (from 1970), pilgramages and trips made by Faith and Light and Daybreak. There is also a film reel of Jean Vanier.

Collection has been arranged into eight series:

  8. Audio reels and film reels

Collection also includes a binder which functioned as a catalogue for many of the cassettes that were housed at l'Arche Daybreak until 2004 and 2006. This binder is located in series 7.

Letter from Jim Wallis

File consists of a copy of one letter from Jim Wallis. Wallis is asking Nouwen for a personal favor, saying that Nouwen will soon receive from Dell/Delacorte Publishers a bound galley of a book by Wallis titled "Who Speaks for God? An Alternative to the Religious Right -- A New Politics of Compassion, Community and Civility." Wallis would like Nouwen to give a comment of the book that could be used by the publishers for the book jacket or in the book itself to recommend the book to readers.

One letter is addressed to "Sojourners Contributing Editors", with a copy of "The Cry for Renewal: Biblical Faith and Spiritual Politics", an eight-page report, along with newspaper clippings. The other letter asks Nouwen for feedback on Wallis' four-page draft of a "call/petition/ad" entitled "Who Speaks for Christians? An Alternative to the Religious Right".

File consists of six letters from Don McClanen of the Ministry of Money (Gaithersburg, MD), one of them a faxed copy, and two of them addressed also to Sue Mosteller; a memo from McClanen to Nouwen, Fred Bratman, Jim Wallis, Gordon Cosby, and Dale Stitt with notes from their April 22 meeting at which Nouwen spoke about his wish to build and endow a retreat centre at Dayspring; a faxed copy of a letter from McClanen to Bratman and copies of two letters from Wallis to McClanen, two form letters from McClanen regarding fundraising and workshops organized by the Ministry of Money; typed and edited notes from a retreat for a Ministry of Money group at Daybreak led by Nouwen and Mosteller; brochures about stewardship and Ministry of Money workshops; and agendas and typed notes from these workshops. File also includes a memo from Carl [last name unknown] regarding a telephone call from McClanen, the April 1996 Ministry of Money newsletter, and three versions of a transcript of a talk Nouwen gave on September 16, 1992, on the spirituality of fundraising.
