Cockburn Family fonds

Personal records documenting the careers of Alexander Peter Cockburn and his children, Jean Elizabeth Munro, Harriet Macmillan Cockburn, James Roy Cockburn, Cecilia Catherine Cockburn, and Mary Barnfield. The records include diaries, certificates, legal documents, course notes and term papers, lecture notes, notes, medical case books, addresses, publications, blueprints, design drawings, photographs, lantern slides, sketches, trench and other military maps (First World War), press clippings and medals. The most extensive series record the activities of Alexander Peter Cockburn as president of the Muskoka and Nipissing Navigation Company; Harriet Cockburn as a medical doctor, especially relating to her service in Serbia during the First World War; Jean Munro's career as an artist in France; and Roy Cockburn's career as professor of engineering drawing in the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, and his military service in the First World War with the Royal Engineers in France and with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force under General Allenby in Palestine.

Stacey 1990 accession

This accession documents Stacey's personal life, his academic achivements as teacher and historian as well as his administrative duties within the Department of National Defence, Directorate of History. Includes correspondence, diaries and notebooks, addresses and lectures, manuscripts and publications, subject files, student papers, photographs, and personal memorabilia.

Stacey 2nd 1993 accession

Consists of correspondence of C.P. Stacey to his mother during World War II, sympathy cards, estate accounts and papers related to death of Mrs. Jennie (Pearl) Margaret Stacey, mother of C.P. Stacey (1964-1968); medals of C.P. Stacey; photos of C.P. Stacey at Oxford and Princeton: portrait (c1920-1950).

Consists of convocation programmes for the awarding of honorary degrees to Vincent Massey (1947) and Francois Charles Archile Jeanneret (1951) and address by Massey on occasion of centenary of University College (1953); programme for the annual reunion dinner, University College, 1948; programme for the 'Science and Technology Studies Toronto 80' conference at the University of Toronto (1980); framed crest of the Royal Regiment of Canada, presented to C. Trinity College Literary Institute Collection

Fonds consists mainly of administrative records of the Trinity College Literary Institute, including the Debates and Conversazione Committees. These records show the wide variety of activities in which the Trinity College Literary Institute has traditionally been involved and the large part played by “The Lit” in the life of the College. Annual social events included TCLI dinners with some well-known speakers, as well as the annual formal dance, the Conversazione which began in 1871. Elaborate programs, posters and graphic works were produced to promote and advertise these and other events.

Correspondence

The correspondence series follows three distinct ordering systems. Those files that were separated as Haultain’s personal correspondence are placed at the front of the series (Box 006) and arranged in chronological order. The “personal” designation appears to have been imposed on the records by the rearrangement of Edith Birkett (see Series 8). Also included in this series are some miscellaneous Haultain correspondence files on a variety of topics, including the Ritual, and some personal correspondence that was filed with the Ritual records.

Boxes 007 through 009 are arranged chronologically and include correspondence between the Wardens and the Camps, some committee correspondence and general Kipling Ritual correspondence. The alphabetical arrangement appears to have been mostly applied following Birkett’s arrangement of the Kipling Ritual files and includes significant correspondence with Camp and Corporate Secretaries and Wardens including Norman Parkinson, Louis Trudel, Robert Marshall and Thomas Hogg. These letters are arranged alphabetically (Boxes 009 through 012).

In later accessions the records are mostly arranged in chronological order and are interspersed with various attachments such as receipts and meeting minutes. Largely these records contain the details of the activity of the office of the Camp One Secretary. For correspondence with the other Camp secretaries see also Series 7. Files (07) and (09) in B1982-0023/006 include early examples of the hand-hammered iron rings.

Education

Series documents McKay’s time as a university student. The physics and chemistry workbook
belongs to his undergraduate years as do the correspondence and clippings regarding his scholarships. Max Planck’s Treatise on Thermodynamics was gifted to McKay when the British Association for the Advancement of Science awarded him a bronze medal. Although the academic hood does not have a date, McKay most likely received it upon earning his Doctorate in 1934.

University of Toronto. Faculty of Information (iSchool). Inforum Library

This accession of records transferred from the Faculty of Information's Inforum Library contains the records of Winifred G. Barnstead, and document her work as the first Director of the Library School at the Ontario College of Education—the original incarnation of the Faculty of Information. The records document Barnstead's work in developing formalized training at the Library School during her tenure from 1928 to 1951. The records include correspondence with libraries and other library schools, UofT staff and faculty, drafts of manuscripts and articles written by Barnstead, School/Faculty informational bulletins, information on course programming and development, as well as some miscellaneous collected material relating generally to librarianship and library studies.

Ham 2002 accession

Records in this accession relate to several series established in B1997-0010, and include personal correspondence, clippings, memorabilia, notebooks and scrapbooks. Also includes many diplomas and honours, artifacts, slides and photographs. Of particular note is documentation relating to J.M. Ham's trip to India as a representative to the World University Services in 1953 as well as personal correspondence with family while a student at MIT in 1946-47.

Series consists of letters to J. Churchill Arlidge concerning his performances; family correspondence; Arlidge's wedding certificate; and a jewel pendant that belonged to his mother.

File includes three items of jewelry: 10K gold double-link charm bracelet; 10K gold charm displaying the old UTSC logo; ring (possibly silver) displaying UTSC logo. The bracelet and charm appear to be unworn, but the ring is heavily tarnishedand has many scratches and other indicators of regular wear. N.B. these items are located in the office of the Head Librarian and may be accessed by request only.

The subseries comprises areas part of Central, Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Europe.
Menus feature Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Finnish, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Indian and Indo-Chinese, Russian and seafood cuisine.

Menus types found in this subseries includes take away menus, static menus, bound menus, trifold formatted menus, and photocopies. Business cards for a small portion of the restaurants are attached to the menus.
