Macpherson as professor of political science at the University of Toronto. B2019-0044 includes correspondence (1943-1954) documenting their courtship and the early years of their marriage.

This fonds consists of records documenting the founding, early activities, and 75th Anniversary of the Madawaska Club of Go Home Bay, Ontario. The records were acquired by the University of Toronto Archives over six accessions between 1974 and 1983.

• B1979-0046: Correspondence, scrapbook of newspaper clippings, publications relating to Prof. Madill's career at the School of Architecture from his appointment in 1934; records about the firm of Craig & Madill, Architects. Also includes file of notes, correspondence, and report to the Civic Advisory Council, City of Toronto, regarding the use of City Hall as a Court House building (1950-1952).

Documents belonging to Merwin Malcolm who was the project manager for Stone Webster, the company hired to construct Robarts Library. Records relate to the design and building of Robarts Library and include progress photos, design photos and drawings, correspondence, reports and plans.

Fonds consists of correspondence, news clippings, reports, reviews, appointment calendars, and other records relating to Michael R. Marrus’s education, academic career, publishing record and university and community service. In particular, records document Prof. Marrus’s prestigious career as a historian of the Holocaust and an expert on the relationships between Christians and Jews (predominantly in France) during World War Two, and also document his involvement in ongoing concerns in the Jewish community, both pertaining to faith and Zionism. In particular, Prof. Marrus’s extensive publishing record is well-documented in contracts, reviews, and ongoing correspondence with readers and colleagues debating and exploring the assertions made in his work. The fonds also documents Prof. Marrus’s career as a student at Berkeley in the 1960s, and his return to student life with his pursuit of a Master of Studies in Law degree (MSL) from the University of Toronto in 2004. Some records also relate to Prof. Marrus’s teaching duties and appointments at the University of Toronto, as well as his service on the University’s Governing Council. One series documents his service on the International Catholic-Jewish Historical Commission (1999-2001) and with the Friends of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon.

Personal papers of Prof. John Marshall, Faculty of Information Studies covering his career as librarian and professor of library science at the University of Toronto. Includes records relating to his role on the Canadian Libraries Association subcommittee on Library technician programs including articles, workshops, surveys, research materials etc. Also included are records relating to the Ontario Provincial Consultative Committee and files on other community colleges and universities. Biographical file documents his firing in 1954 from Victoria Public Library and public apology by the Board of VPL in 1998.

Records document Elisabeth Marani’s contribution to the production of “Miss Julie” by the U.C. Players Guild in October 1954 and “Brigadoon” by University College and St. Michael’s College in 1955. Records relating to “Miss Julie” include original costume sketches, preliminary designs for sets and props as well as a one page recollection written by Elisabeth Bacque (nee Marani). Records relating to “Brigadoon” include researched sketches for costumes, a program and clippings. Finally this donation also includes sketched designs for a U.C. Follies production.

This fonds contains records related to the professional activities and personal life of Dr. Ernest Mastromatteo, occupational physician. The bulk of the material in this fonds documents his roles as a medical practitioner, researcher, and occupational health director. The series documenting the activities of the Nickel Producers’ Environmental Research Association, an association Dr. Mastromatteo was heavily involved in during the 1980s, is the largest, with smaller series documenting his career at Inco, his work with the American Conference of Governmental and Industrial Hygienists, and his many projects, case studies, organizations, associations and societies, as well as legal cases he provided testimony in. There is also a relatively large amount of material documenting his research in the form of addresses, and additional material chronicling his time as a student at both the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine and the School of Hygiene.

Records include correspondence, notebooks, publications, drafts, prints, reports, meeting minutes and memoranda.

Clippings, diplomas, awards and photographs document 1939 B.A.Sc graduate Mackenzie McMurray. McMurray, who also graduated with an Masters in Commerce in 1954 became president of Dominion Bridge Company. Included in this accession are thirteen photographs taken by McMurray while a part of the Hart House Camera Club in the late 1930s. These photographs, some of which won awards, were exhibited as part of the Annual Camera Club Exhibition at Hart House 1935 - 1940. There is also a graduating composite for the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, 1939.

The Massey Family records consist primarily of official and personal documents created by Vincent Massey. They reflect his distinguished diplomatic career, including his terms as Canadian ambassador to the United States during the 1920s and as High Commissioner to London during the 1930s and 1940s, along with his lengthy affiliation with the Liberal Party of Canada. Also represented are his years as Governor-General of Canada and as the leader of the Royal Commission on National Development in the Arts, Sciences and Letters. The moral and financial support given by Vincent and Alice Massey to cultural development in Canada, both individually and through the Massey Foundation, is evident in a wealth of documents relating to the fields of education, music, drama and fine arts (including such institutions and organizations as the National Council of Education, Hart House Quartet, Hart House Theatre, the Dominion Drama Festival, and the National Art Gallery). Their support of the University of Toronto is also well documented. In addition to the records of Vincent Massey, some papers of Alice Massey and correspondence of many members of the Grant, Massey and Parkin families are present.

B1991-0022: Laboratory notes, with exercises, for second year undergraduate course in physics (electricity), taken by Robert W. McCauley, a second year student in Biology 1947.

This fonds consists of one accession documenting three generations of the McCarthy family of Toronto. The majority of records document two graduates of the University of Toronto, Douglas Findlay McCarthy (B.A.Sc, 1929) and his son, Douglas Dale McCarthy (M.D. 1955). Sous fonds 1 consists of personal records of Douglas Findlay McCarthy documenting primarily his years as an engineering student during the mid 1920s at the University of Toronto. Personal diaries cover his education not only for these four years (1924-1929) but also some of his high school years at Malvern Collegiate. Also included are photographs of his team sports in water polo and basketball as well as graduation, and sports artifacts such as two trophies for bowling and rugby. Among the materials in Series 1 are the only documents relating to his father: two engineer’s booklets signed “Geo. A. McCarthy, Moncton, N.B.” and dated 1893.
Sous fonds 2 contains records relating to his son, Dale McCarthy during his time as a medical student in medicine in 1955 and relating to his medical career in the 1960s. However among these materials are some medical prescriptions believed to belong to his maternal grandfather, A.W. Moffatt for the 19th century as well as a Marey Sphygmograph used for measuring blood pressure during the same time period. Unfortunately, there is no documentation regarding his years with the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, or his involvement with the Ontario March of Dimes in Northern Ontario.

Photographs of or relating to Lt. Col. John McCrae

Personal records documenting the career of Joseph McCulley, Headmaster of Pickering College (1927-1947), Deputy Commissioner of Penitentiaries (1947-1952) and Warden of Hart House (1952-1965); includes personal correspondence, student course notes, scrapbooks, and photographs. Papers also include minutes and correspondence relating to various committees and associations in which McCulley was active such as the YMCA War Services Committee (1947-50) and the United Nations Association (1966-1967). Records not only document Hart House but would be of interest to researchers investigating penitentiary reform, juvenile delinquency and the education of youths.

This finding aid has been compiled from inventories of the four accessions prepared by Harold Averill and Garron Wells. The fonds describes the personal records of Dr. Ernest McCulloch documenting his career as professor of medicine and administrator at the University of Toronto, and as medical researcher and author of over 200 articles mainly relating to his work on leukaemia and other blood related disorders. Arranged in 17 series, this fonds contains professional and personal correspondence, files relating to administrative activities at the University of Toronto and the Ontario Cancer Institute/Princess Margaret Hospital, subject files on external activities with various professional and academic organizations, editorial boards, etc., teaching materials including lecture notes and extensive research materials documenting experiments relating to cell growth in mice conducted during the 1960's . Also included are graphic materials documenting activities such as meetings and awards as well as illustrations for presentations and publications.

Professional records of Dr. William Stewart McCullough, professor of Near Eastern Studies. Records include correspondence concerning publications, faculty appointments, and teaching. Also included are manuscripts for Dr. McCullough's various article publications. There are also University publications such as convocation programmes, invitations, menus, and calendars. Records also include photographs of Dr. McCullough and other individuals.

This accession mainly documents Prof. McIlwraith role as a teacher. Records in Series 1: Teaching, Series 2: Field Trips, and most records in Series 4: Tenure Documentation, focus on courses he taught from 1970 to 2003. His heritage work and his talks to various local historical groups are also fairly well documented in Series 3: Public Lectures and Talks, and Series 6: Heritage Associations. Except for a few typescripts and photocopies of publications and reviews found in Series 4: Tenure Documentation and one annotated typescript that makes up Series 5: Publications, Prof. McIlwraith accomplishments as a writer, reviewer and editor are absent from this accession.

The T.F. McIlwraith fonds consists of records documenting McIlwraith’s training and career as an anthropologist as well as his roles as an administrator and professor at the University of Toronto. Covering three separate accessions, material primarily includes professional records related to his research, teaching, and publishing activity. Fonds includes significant coverage is of McIlwraith’s writing, both published and unpublished. Series 17 (The Bella Coola Indians) focuses on his research with the Nuxalk Nation for the book The Bella Coola Indians. Extensive correspondence, subject files, maps and photographs are included within the fonds and partially consist of material collected and/ or sent to McIlwraith in connection with his research.

Also includes a typescript of Prof. McIlwraith's book "The Bella Coola Indians" (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1948) including field notes, vocabulary card, photographs and copper plates of illustrations related to his research about the Nuxalk Peoples of Bella Coola, British Columbia.

Accession B2019-0043: Norman Walter McInnes' admission to lectures cards and receipts for courses in medicine at University of Toronto in medicine, 1893-1897.

Clippings and memorabilia document the Varsity Women's Hockey Team who, in 1925 won both the Ontario Ladies Hockey Championship and the Dominion title. Thora McIlroy played defence on the team.

The records comprising this fonds consist of two accessions: B2002-0011 and B2003-0007. The majority of the records document his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and include mainly correspondence, some typescripts of speeches and articles, clippings, awards, and photographs. There are no administrative records and no teaching or research materials relating to his chief area of interest, organic chemistry.

B1997-0031 (1909-1997, 9 boxes and 2 items): This accession contains correspondence, manuscripts of published and unpublished articles, books and papers, offprints, notes, lectures and works of art organized into nine series. Series I provides some documentation of his early student life as well as a comprehensive curriculum vitae, prepared in 1991. Series II to V are predominantly correspondence, both received and sent, documenting his personal and professional life from his student days at the University of Toronto through his career as University professor in Winnipeg and Toronto. The most comprehensive evidence of his range of writing and social activist activities will be found among Series II General correspondence which spans some thirty-seven years. Articles and correspondence regarding his involvement in the “Harry Crowe Case” will be found in Series III. Series IV and V supplement Series II with correspondence, reports and notes relating to specific activities at the University of Toronto such as the supervision of graduate students and participation in campus groups such as the Faculty Committee on Vietnam and the University League for Social Reform. Some additional teaching materials for courses in history will be found in Series VIII.

Series 6 and 7 relate to scholarly writing and contain predominantly copies of articles and correspondence relating to books published. Unfortunately, few manuscripts for these publications have survived.

The two watercolours in Series 9 provide another dimension that has been overlooked in biographies produced to date – that of amateur artist. The bulk of his original artwork remains with his family as a lasting testament to a multi-faceted and talented scholar.

B1999-0006 (1997, 1 box): Manuscript of chapters 1-14 of personal memoirs of Kenneth McNaught. Handwritten pages. Manuscript was basis for book of his memoirs to be published by UofT Press in Spring 1999.

This fonds documents Professor Kenneth McNeill's research and publishing activities through professional correspondence (Series 1), drafts and typescript of articles, reviews, addresses, referee reports, research data and notes (Series 2 &3). Series 3, in particular, documents research undertaken in the Steel Room in the Department of Physics. Series 4, 5 and 6 document some of his administrative duties within the University and in particular Electron Linear Accelerator committee, and the Radiation Protection Authority. Lecture notes (Series 7) from courses taught both at the University of Glasgow (1952-1957) and at the University of Toronto (1958-1996) document his teaching responsibilities, while early course notes (Series 9) document his education at Oxford in the 1940s.

Prof. McNeill was also an active consultant outside the University, mainly for government but also for industry. Series 8 contains files relating to this consultancy work and in particular to his work on nuclear preparedness for Emergency Planning Ontario, a department within the Ontario Solicitor General’s office. Series 10 contains the collected material for a study on radon levels in Newfoundland mines that Prof. McNeill did for the Atomic Energy Board of Canada.

Records documenting the lives of John Harris McPhedran, associate professor in the Faculty of Medicine, and members of his family, including his first wife, Florence Davidson, and their children, Isobel and Elizabeth, and his second wife, Marie Green Duncan, author of several books and a Governor-General's Award winner.

Included is correspondence, diaries, and his autobiography which, in addition to personal and family matters, detail his activities during World War I and at the University of Toronto; certificates and diplomas, legal documents, memorabilia, notes, research files, interviews, manuscripts, radio scripts, photographs, glass-plate negatives, and postcards.
