File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen's lecture at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, Kildare, Ireland. The title of Nouwen's lecture was " From Communion to Community and Ministry." Proceeds of the event went to the Trocaire Lenten Campaign. Includes material about the Trocaire campaign including a brochure, poster, sticker, and box. Also includes a copy of the march 1991 issue of the "The Furrow," a journal for the Contemporary Church. The travel itinerary indicates Nouwen also went to Holland during this trip. There is nothing in the file about Holland, he probably went for a personal visit.

The theme of the conference was "Communion to Community: Communion and an Invitation to Ministry." Includes notes of a meeting planning for the conference, an agenda for the conference, and notes from the discussion with Nouwen on "Where do we go from here?" written by Jeff Boerger sent in a letter from David Robson. Also includes correspondence with Nouwen, regarding arrangements for the conference and thank-you letters. Includes correspondence with Allan Read, Bishop of Ontario. A copy of Nouwen response is included with most letters.

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding a visit by Mary Cosby to L'Arche Daybreak. Includes copies of a picture and biography of Mary Cosby, co-founder of the Church of the Saviour. Also includes a memo and itinerary regarding her visit and a thank-you letter. Some notes written by Nouwen regarding Mary's travel arrangements are on the back of the program for Daybreak's Epiphany Celebration from January 6, 1991 that had the theme "The Gift is Ourselves."

Visit to the Scarritt-Bennett Center - February 7-9, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen speaking at the Scarritt-Bennett Center, Nashville, Tennessee. Notes in Nouwen's hand indicate that the topic of the talk may have been "Deepening of Prayer Life." Includes a letter from Mary Avram stating that she sent Nouwen two audio tapes of his talk. Also includes a letter from John Mogabgab hoping to see Nouwen in February. Mogabgab had a key role in organizing this event.

File consists of correspondence, with Bob Smith, regarding Nouwen speaking to a group of men from Emmanuel Anglican Church, Richmond Hill, Ontario. Includes a copy of a letter from Nouwen to Smith accepting the invitation.

Earlham College, re. Receiving Honourary Degree - January 28 - 30, 1991

File consists of correspondence and other material regarding Nouwen receiving an Honourary Degree from Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana. Nouwen gave a series of talks while he was there "From Harvard to L'Arche," "Living a Spiritual Life," "Life Together at Daybreak," and the convocation speech "Communion as the Source of Christian Leadership." Includes a copy of the 'Citation Honoring Henri J.M. Nouwen' by Henri Freeman. Includes a travel itinerary, schedules, programs, and brochures about Earlham and the convocation. Many people from Earlham sent letters of thanks and some photographs to Nouwen, however there are no photographs in the file. Includes copies of Nouwen's responses to these letters. Also includes follow-up correspondence regarding Freeman's work in El Salvador and a visit by a group from Earlham to Daybreak.

File consists of correspondence with Wunibald Muller, regarding a visit with Nouwen at Daybreak. Some of the correspondence is in German. Includes a letter from Nouwen suggesting lunch on the 26th. Annotations on the letter confirm the meeting.

Includes annotations on the sermons in both Nouwen and Kathy Bruner's hand. Also includes booklet to the members of Daybreak on how the weekend will be arranged.

The Church and Nuclear Man

File consists of a draft typescript of an article by Nouwen titled "The Church and Nuclear Man." This article begins with a discussion of a young man named Peter, the human condition, and the condition of modern man and nuclear men. The article is then split into two parts: the condition of nuclear man ; the Church's response to nuclear man. Nouwen describes the condition of nuclear man and a generation gap in the modern western world, not between young and old, but between nuclear and pre-nuclear man. Nouwen then goes on to discuss the crisis of the Church in the modern world.
