Department of Sociology

Subseries C.17, Department of Philosophy, covers the years 1974 through. The subseries includes a sociological study of the Scarborough College student body, booklets, course evaluations, course descriptions, reports, curriculum change notices, reports, proposals, and other materials.

Department of Physical Education

Subseries C.18, Department of Physical Education, covers the years 1969 through 1990. The subseries includes handbooks, a departmental report, correspondence, and a 25th anniversary annual report.

Principal

The subseries B.1 Principal covers the years 1963 to 1993 and 2004. The Principal of the University of Toronto Scarborough is the chief executive and chief academic officer of the university. The Principal is also a vice-president of the University of Toronto. The materials in this subseries were gathered during the administrations of the following Principals: A.F.W. Plumptre (1965-1972), D.R. Campbell (1972-1975), A.D. Allen (1976), J.E. Foley (1976, 1978-1984), S.J. Colman (1981), G.R. Williams (1984-1989), Paul Thompson (1989-1993), and Kwong-loi Shun (2004-2006). The files mostly comprise professional correspondence and other documents issued directly from the principal.

Superintendent

The subseries B.6 Superintendent covers the years 1963 to 1964. The superintendent is in charge of building services. Records from the first college superintendent, F.J. Hastie, are included here and comprise correspondence regarding the construction of the S & H Wings.

Director of Physical Education

The subseries B.7. Director of Physical Education covers the years 1967 to 1991. The Director of Physical Education is in charge of athletics and recreation facilities and programming. The files included here incorporate information about classes and events as well as sign-up forms, and also memos and minutes.

Director of Educational Communication Systems

Subseries B.8 Director of Educational Communication Systems covers the years 1967 to 1971. The Director of Educational Communication Systems was in charge of the maintenance and programming of the television lectures used as an early teaching method at UTSC. The files included are mainly composed of lists of items for educational use.

City of Scarborough

The subseries E.8 City of Scarborough covers the years 1963 to 1977 and 1985 to 1988. The materials relate to the surrounding community as well as the corporate body of the city. Subjects include by-laws that affect the university, transportation, postal delivery, ARTS Scarborough, and the Guild of All Arts, among many others. The files are composed of a wide variety of materials, including reports, correspondence, and other documents.

Communications & Public Affairs

The subseries B.12 Communications & Public Affairs covers the years 1996 to 1992, 2002, and 2005. The department of Communications & Public Affairs, composed in part from prior departments such as Publications Office and the Community Relations Office, is responsible for the outward promotion of the university’s image to stakeholders, including prospective and current students, through various media channels. The department also publishes the Annual Review, the annual student recruitment Viewbook, and other publications; it is responsible for the website and social media outlets; and it directs marketing and advertising of the university. The files in this subseries include issues of many Scarborough College/UTSC publications, including the Bulletin, UTSC Live, To Be Taken Internally/Internally Yours, Spectrum, and Inside UTSC, as well as other documentation.
