Executrix correspondence

File consists of correspondence with Professor M. Roberts (Department of Modern History, The Queen's University of Belfast) and with the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland regarding the transfer of Patrick O'Neill's political papers to the Public Record Office, as well as correspondence with Eamon Phoenix concerning his research for a doctoral thesis at The Queen's University of Belfast about the nationalist movement in Northern Ireland.

Sub-series consists of published articles written by Nouwen between 1960 and 1996. A majority of the articles are dated between 1975 and 1996 probably because in 1975 Nouwen began transferring the articles for storage at Yale. The articles are in various formats including entire periodicals, offprints, clippings, and photocopies as originally saved by Nouwen. Specific publications include Pastoral Psychology, Sojourners, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, Feu et Lumiere, The New Oxford Review, National Catholic Reporter, Weavings, and Zaken die God raken. Articles from church newsletters and other sources with limited publication are also included. In addition to featuring unique writings, the articles also represent published material that has been excerpted, condensed, adapted and reprinted from Nouwen's books, articles, and conference speeches. This sub-series contains only those articles written by Nouwen which he collected and does not contain all of his published articles as is evident by several incomplete article series.
The files are arranged chronologically. Each file features one unique published article although photocopies of newspapers as well as business cards and letters indicating the source of the articles are also included. Each file/article has been described at the item level.

Weekly calendars

Sub-series consists of Nouwen’s weekly appointment calendars from 1975 to 1996. Most contain ephemeral material (including personal notes, reminders, invitations and miscellaneous information) which has been removed and placed in separate envelopes.

Street Box

File consists of records relating to the Catholic New Times street box rentals, including the project proposal and a list of locations.

Catholic Church reform

File consists of newsletters, press releases, newspapers (the Corpus Canada Journal) and clippings, and research papers related to calls for reform within the Roman Catholic Church. The records reflect the Catholic New Times' involvement with Corpus Canada and the Coalition of Concerned Canadian Catholics.

Photograph album 3

Album 3 consists of photographs of Henri Nouwen alone and with friends, including Don McNeill, Bob Antonelli and Claude Pomerleau, between 1970 and 1974. Put together by Henri Nouwen the album predominantly contains photos of him socializing with friends at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut; posing for portraits along canals in Utrecht, Netherlands for photographer Ron van den Bosch; and working and socializing with friends at the Abbey of the Genesee in Piffard, New York. Also included are photos of retreats, as well as trips to Aspen, Colorado; Elora, Ontario; and Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Correspondence with Marshall McLuhan

File consists of 12 letters to James Feeley from Marshall McLuhan. The letters are predominantly from 1962-1965, but there is on letter from 1977. The series also consists of five letters from Feeley to McLuhan between 1964 and 1965.

Joe Egan, "Talk to Assistants"

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given by Joe Egan and Robert Larouche at the annual weekend for l'Arche Daybreak assistants in September 1985.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: I want to start by thanking Robert Larouche, our Zone Coordinator, for your visit. Thank you for nourishing and affirming us as a community. You spoke the truth, a truth that comes out of what you live in Haiti. I want to deepen some more the two challenges that you talked about yesterday. The interior challenge of how we live well the community life we are called to. But also the exterior challenge of what is our call as a L'Arche community in our culture.

Long-term Assistants Meeting. January 31, 1991, Sr. Sue Mosteller

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk from a Long-term Assistants' Meeting at l'Arche Daybreak. Sr. Sue Mosteller began the meeting ,and there were also talks by Nathan [Ball], Robin [last name unknown] and Joan [last name unknown], as well as a chapel.

Invite us to be here with our hearts, to be heard and listening to. After a song and a psalm we will start with the program of sharing updates and a time together praying led by Henri Nouwen.

Sound Recordings series

Series consists of eleven audio cassettes of lectures and retreats given by Nouwen from 1985 to 1994. Specifically, there are two audio cassettes from a ALT Brugge Retreat on the topics of Prayer and Reconciliation. There are two audio cassettes which contain a Mass given by Nouwen on Compassion. There is one audio cassette titled "La Visitation" and another titled "Francais – Homelie – Houietie". There are also five audio cassettes of Nouwen leading a seminar on the Gospel of St. John while he was at L'Arche Trosly-Breuil.

Item consists of 1 audio cassette featuring a talk given by Jean Vanier at a Covenant Retreat (Retraite de l'Alliance) in March 1986.

Item consists of 1 audio cassette from an unknown Faith and Sharing (Foi et Portage) retreat in October 1978.

Content notes (or transcription) from beginning of the recording: Talk One (and all the talks ): Starts in French. The first retreat was in English. That is why I started in French. So many things have happened over these last 10 years. Think of all the gifts that have been given to us in Faith & Sharing and in Faith & Light & L�Arche too. And in each of our personal lives. Talk Two: I mentioned last time that our world rejects weaknesses. We pretend and wish to appear strong so that we can be admired. Wisdom is to welcome our reality.

52 Pickup 76

File consists of 1 complete box set of 52 Pickup 76 and 26 display copies of broadsides featured in the series. The loose broadsides, likely part of an incomplete exhibition set, range in size and are unfolded.

The 52 Pickup 76 collection features 52 poems by 52 emerging poets, printed on flat or uniformly folded broadsides using a variety of typefaces and coloured paper. The box set includes a title page, colophon, specification sheet, and afterword by editor Greg Gatenby. The specification sheet notes that the paper for the box was made from blue jeans. The box set is #96 of an edition of 100 copies, and is signed and numbered by Gatenby.

A complete list of the poems and poets in numbered sequence appears below. Items in bold have a duplicate stand-alone broadside present in the collection.

Opposites attract [Seth Scriver]

File consists of 1 copy of Opposites attract, a limited edition series of original illustrations by Seth Scriver. The series consists of 7 broadsides on multi-coloured paper collected together in a paper enclosure. The illustrations were printed by Someone.ca using photopolymer plates and hand set type.

Colette Potvin: Travail

File consists of process work and drafts created by Colette Potvin between 1965 and 1966. Records include typescripts and drafts of the essay “ce que je souhaite et ce que j'espère” as well as typescripts, drafts, handwritten notes and correspondence relating to other Potvin reports and essays.

Nouwen letter project administrative files

File consists of administrative material for the Nouwen Letter Project. Materials are separated into the following files:

File 1: 2007 Donation Campaign
File consists of initial project reports for the 2007 continuation of the letter project; a deed of gift agreement; an image usage agreement; a website notice; letters of requests; follow-up letters; brochures; flowcharts; progress and summary reports; personnel files; and examples of deeds of gifts, usage agreements, and letters of requests from other institutions.

File 2: Quotes
File consists of quotations and estimates for printing business cards, brochures, cards, envelopes, and letters.

File 3: 2007 Working Lists
File consists of working lists that are separated into high, mid, and low priorities. Some lists are annotated with additional notes by Sue Mosteller and Gabrielle Earnshaw.

File 4: Tokens of appreciation
File consists of planning and samples of hand-printed cards of Nouwen quotes that were used as tokens of appreciation.

File 5: 2010 Letter Project Coordinator personnel files
File consists of personnel files of the 2010 Henri Nouwen Letter Project coordinator. File includes letters of employment, a project grant approval, a summary report for September 2009 to June 2011, budget correspondence, and handwritten notes by Brynn Phillips Lawrence who was the project coordinator from 2009 to 2012.

File 6: Deeds of Gifts
File consists of four copies of the deed of gift agreement sent to donors to the Nouwen Letter Project. One copy has an accession number and date handwritten on it.

File 7: Letterheads
File consists of blank letterheads used for correspondence for the Letter Project and mailing labels. The letterhead margin lists the Nouwen Archive Letter Project Board and a Nouwen quote from The Genesee Diary.

File 8: Checklists
File consists of three copies of the checklist used when receiving and organizing donations to the Nouwen Letter Project.

File 9: Experiencing Henri
File consists of different versions of a questionnaire sent out for “Experiencing Henri” which asked for reflections on connections with Nouwen to provide context for materials donated to the Letter Project.

File 10: Letter Project Back-ups
File consists of 3 optical disks containing backups for the Letter Project files from 2012.

File 11: Audiovisual materials
File consists of administrative audiovisual materials from the Nouwen Project. One DVD is raw audio/video footage for an interview conducted by Brynn Phillips Lawrence with Gabriella Silano. The interview was conducted in order to prepare a 5 minute promotional video, to be posted on the Nouwen Archive Letter Project website. File also includes sound recordings from a memorial service for Michael Frederick Kennedy; an optical disc labelled “Gabriella Footage”; and a MiniDV cassette.

File 12: Correspondence files
File consists of correspondence for the letter project and are separated into folders by addressees and donors. List of all correspondents is kept in the first folder.

Henri Nouwen Society newsletters

File consists of the official publication of the Henri Nouwen Society in Canada and the United States, providing information and updates regarding retreats, study groups, lecture series and other activities. Archives has up to: Fall 2008.

Letterhead and archival questionnaire cards

File consists of blank letterhead for the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre and the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre’s newsletter Sprouting Seeds. Also in the file are several blank questionnaire postcards for individuals to indicate whether they had Nouwen related material they were willing to donate to the Henri Nouwen Literary Centre.

Reflections on Mark 14:32-42

File consists of a transcript of a homily given by Nouwen on Mark 14: 32-42. The transcription was done by Gabrielle Earnshaw, Archivist for a researcher.

Lannoo

File consists of 13 copies of a pamphlet entitled, “Henri Nouwen bij Lannoo” and a poster for the dutch edition of The Prodigal Son. One copy of the pamphlet is a later edition with a new photograph, a shorter preface, and 3 additional books listed.
