Program for gathering to bless Henri's grave

File consists of one program for an event, titled "Gathering to Bless Henri's Grave" from July 30, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. The event was held at St. John's Cemetery, Oak Ridges. This event was held to bless the grave of Nouwen after he was moved from Sacred Heart Cemetery in King City, Ontario, to St. John's Cemetery, in order that his body might be with other members of the L'Arche Daybreak community that have died. Includes a newspaper article from the Catholic Register about the ceremony, titled "Famous Catholic author moved to Anglican cemetery."

File consists of a brochure for Stem in de Stad [Voice in the City], an ecumenical diaconal organization in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Jurjen Beumer was the pastor for the organization. Included on the schedule of talks sponsored by Stem in de Stad is a talk titled "Henri Nouwen en zijn befaamde boek 'Eindelijk Thuis'", given by Harry Michels and Jurjen Beumer on December 13, 2011. Also included in the file is a brochure about outreach with the homeless community by Stem in de Stad, and a brochure with a short biography of Jurjen Beumer and a list of his published works.

Henri Nouwen reading his paper "The Death of Martin Luther King"

File consists of a compact disc of an audio recording of Henri Nouwen leading a special lecture/panel on the person and meaning of Martin Luther King and the meaning of non-violence today. It is likely this lecture took place at Notre Dame shortly after the death of Martin Luther King on April 4, 1968. The lecture consisted of three speakers but the recording only consists of Nouwen's talk. Nouwen introduces the special lecture and then reads his paper "The Death of Martin Luther King."

Untitled essay on Henri Nouwen

File consists of an essay by Gabriella Silano for a course, VIC184, at the University of Toronto, about the life and work of Henri Nouwen. Silano wrote this paper as part of an archival research project and visited the Nouwen Archives on several occasions in November and December 2009.

File consists of administrative material for the Nouwen Letter Project. Materials are separated into the following files:

File 1: 2007 Donation Campaign
File consists of initial project reports for the 2007 continuation of the letter project; a deed of gift agreement; an image usage agreement; a website notice; letters of requests; follow-up letters; brochures; flowcharts; progress and summary reports; personnel files; and examples of deeds of gifts, usage agreements, and letters of requests from other institutions.

File 2: Quotes
File consists of quotations and estimates for printing business cards, brochures, cards, envelopes, and letters.

File 3: 2007 Working Lists
File consists of working lists that are separated into high, mid, and low priorities. Some lists are annotated with additional notes by Sue Mosteller and Gabrielle Earnshaw.

File 4: Tokens of appreciation
File consists of planning and samples of hand-printed cards of Nouwen quotes that were used as tokens of appreciation.

File 5: 2010 Letter Project Coordinator personnel files
File consists of personnel files of the 2010 Henri Nouwen Letter Project coordinator. File includes letters of employment, a project grant approval, a summary report for September 2009 to June 2011, budget correspondence, and handwritten notes by Brynn Phillips Lawrence who was the project coordinator from 2009 to 2012.

File 6: Deeds of Gifts
File consists of four copies of the deed of gift agreement sent to donors to the Nouwen Letter Project. One copy has an accession number and date handwritten on it.

File 7: Letterheads
File consists of blank letterheads used for correspondence for the Letter Project and mailing labels. The letterhead margin lists the Nouwen Archive Letter Project Board and a Nouwen quote from The Genesee Diary.

File 8: Checklists
File consists of three copies of the checklist used when receiving and organizing donations to the Nouwen Letter Project.

File 9: Experiencing Henri
File consists of different versions of a questionnaire sent out for “Experiencing Henri” which asked for reflections on connections with Nouwen to provide context for materials donated to the Letter Project.

File 10: Letter Project Back-ups
File consists of 3 optical disks containing backups for the Letter Project files from 2012.

File 11: Audiovisual materials
File consists of administrative audiovisual materials from the Nouwen Project. One DVD is raw audio/video footage for an interview conducted by Brynn Phillips Lawrence with Gabriella Silano. The interview was conducted in order to prepare a 5 minute promotional video, to be posted on the Nouwen Archive Letter Project website. File also includes sound recordings from a memorial service for Michael Frederick Kennedy; an optical disc labelled “Gabriella Footage”; and a MiniDV cassette.

File 12: Correspondence files
File consists of correspondence for the letter project and are separated into folders by addressees and donors. List of all correspondents is kept in the first folder.

Japanese translations - publisher correspondence

File consists of correspondence between Joseph Matsuo (Fr. Matsuo Mitsugi SDB) from Don Bosco Sha in Tokyo, Japan and Maureen Wright regarding the use and associated permissions of photographs in the book The Message of Henri Nouwen. Also in the file is a letter from Haruo Obuchi at OmenDo Publishers in Japan to Maureen Wright regarding the approval of the Japanese translation of Nouwen’s Jesus: A Gospel, which is included with the request.

File consists of an interview with Jean and Rex Arnett interviewed by Errol Stein presumably at their home (Scarborough, ON). Jean and Rex Arnett are the parents of Adam and Michael Arnett, core members of L'Arche Daybreak; Nouwen was Adam Arnett's assistant. Additional ephemera in the file includes correspondence between Adam Arnett and Myra Alexander, copies of two photographs of Myra (originals available in General Files), 'Adam's Passion' by Geoffrey Whitney Brown, two copies of a poem about Adam by Archie B. Aitcheson, a letter to Adam from Peter [Don?] writing from L'Arche Trosly in France and one typed letter from Nouwen to Jean and Rex Arnett on his reflections after Adam's death. Interview with John Garvey

File consists of an interview with John Garvey interviewed by Joe Vorstermans at the Garvey home in Queensborough, New York City. Garvey is an orthodox priest and writer/editor. Garvey met Nouwen as a student at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Indiana) from 1963-1967. Garvey remembers Nouwen performing the liturgy in Garvey's small apartment, visiting Nouwen at Yale (New Haven CT), Nouwen visiting Garvey in Springfield, Illinois and their correspondence till Nouwen's death. Themes present in Garvey's interview include papacy, The Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Anthony Bloom, writing, Commonweal Magazine, Nouwen's relationship with kids, Vincent van Gogh and prayer life. The files also includes a handwritten note from Garvey to Joe Vorstermans regarding the deed of gift and a brief chronology of Garvey's life. The interview is transcribed and is available electronically or in hard copy.

File consists of an interview with Phillip Grigsby interviewed by Errol Stein (location unknown). Grigsby lives in Schenectady, NY and is a Ecumenical Minister. Grigsby met Nouwen when Nouwen was a part of the faculty at Yale Divinity School (New Haven, CT).
