The Ursula Franklin Reader

Subseries consists primarily of files assembled for the publication of the Ursula Franklin Reader: Pacifism as a Map (Between the Lines, 2006), with the help of Michelle Swenarchuk and Ruth Pincoe. The book includes edited articles and talks that appear elsewhere in this fonds, but these files have been retained as they illustrate the process of selecting and editing from a large body of work to create a condensed volume of Dr. Franklin’s ideas. Records include drafts, notes and correspondence for each chapter. The subseries also includes reviews of the book, as well as correspondence and photographs relating to a number of book launches.

Massey Lectures: The Real World of Technology

Series consists of records relating to Dr. Franklin’s 1989 CBC Massey Lectures, The Real World of Technology, which was published by Anansi Press in 1992 (2nd edition, 1999). The bulk of the series documents Dr. Franklin’s preparation for the lectures, including notes and drafts. Records also include subject files and general resources on technology, promotional material for the lectures (including a poster), records relating to rights, lecture transcripts, proofs, and correspondence from individuals responding to the lectures.

Teaching files

At the University of Toronto, Dr. Farrar developed a reputation for being a dedicated teacher and mentor. In the book, TPH History and Memories of the Toronto Psychiatric Hospital, 1925-1966, one of Dr. Farrar’s students during the 1920’s, Dr. W. Clifford Scott, wrote: “During the 18 months I was at TPH, Farrar’s lectures were given there and I skipped some of my other classes to hear him.” Records in this sub-series document Dr. Farrar’s teaching activities in the U. of T. Department of Psychiatry and include lecture and research notes.

Records include Dr. Farrar’s research notes and lectures delivered to Princeton University students.

The subseries includes menus and some correspondence from countries that are a part of the European continent including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales.

The subseries comprises areas part of Central, Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Europe.
Menus feature Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Thai, Finnish, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Indian and Indo-Chinese, Russian and seafood cuisine.

Menus types found in this subseries includes take away menus, static menus, bound menus, trifold formatted menus, and photocopies. Business cards for a small portion of the restaurants are attached to the menus.

Photograph albums

Sub-series consists of 5 photograph albums containing approximately 781 photographs and ephemera taken by or collected by Nouwen. Included are early personal photographs of Nouwen's trips abroad, his time at seminary school and his tenure at Yale Divinity School.

Sub-series consists of published articles representing interviews of and articles written about Nouwen between 1974 and 1996. The articles are in various formats including entire periodicals, offprints, clippings, and photocopies as originally saved by Nouwen. Specific publications include Harvard Divinity Bulletin, Catholic Times, Katholiek Nieuwsblad, Trouw, and Zaken die God raken. Articles from church newsletters and other sources with limited publication are also included. This sub-series does not contain all of the published interviews of and articles about Nouwen as is evident by several incomplete article series.

English Department, Graduate Drama Centre and Cinema Studies administration files

Subseries consists of administration files relating to various review and advisory committees and include the English Department Graduate Planning Committee and the Research Advisory Committee. The English Department became a centralized university department in 1975, before it was four separate college departments, including University College English Department, of which Anne Lancashire was a faculty member. Files are organized to reflect this separation of the department. Also included are administration files relating to various committees relating to the Graduate Drama Centre and Cinema Studies.

Income payments and honorariums

Sub-series consists of four files containing income receipts from various employers of Sheila Watson, as well as honorariums she received in payment of her professional activities as a writer and speaker.

Photographs of guest artists

Subseries consists of promotional photographs of visiting musicians to the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, which were collected and used by the Faculty's promotions office.

Other performance records

Subseries contains a certificate for Elizabeth Benson Guy's performance at Expo '67; her biography and repertoire list (April 1966); festival adjudicator's comments from her participation in the Kiwanis Music Festival (n.d.); and, a poster from a concert that she gave at Saint John High School on January 21, 1969.

Juvenilia

Subseries consists of Derek Holman's earliest compositions, written when he was a child (up to age 16).

School records

Subseries contains records from Derek Holman's student years, including materials from his time at Truro School, Royal Academy of Music, and the University of London.

Student Files - Deceased as of 2003

Sub-series consists of files of individual students who attended Emmanuel College, 1928-1991, and who are deceased as of 2003. Files may include the following: transcripts of marks, student record cards (including marks), correspondence of the registrar, Principal and faculty members (including letters of recommendation), application forms, evaluation reports, obituaries, clippings, registration forms, examination results, and financial records re loans, bursaries and other matters.

Radio broadcasts and concert recordings

Subseries consists of correspondence and contract agreements between Esprit Orchestra and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for recording and radio broadcast of concerts by Esprit Orchestra. Subseries also includes notes and correspondence regarding a potential recording agreement with Naxos for Epsrit's "Rivka!" concert with Rivka Golani (February 4, 1995).

Subseries consists of event posters, invitations, announcement notices, business cards, occasion cards, and stationery produced and designed by Dreadnaught Press for a variety of clients.

Subseries consists of excerpts of Hansard organized under topics of interest to Graham. Many excerpts include remarks he delivered during Question Period in the House of Commons about topics that fell under his purview as Minister for National Defence.
