The Nick Thierry fonds consists of 320 issues of Swim News (formerly Swim Canada) and research for articles contained within the magazine, various correspondence with people involved and interested in competitive swimming, a large amount of handwritten and typed results from numerous swim meets and events, and a series of letters collected from Thierry’s correspondence with Howard Firby, who served as the head coach of Canada’s swim teams during the 1964 Olympic Games and the 1966 Commonwealth Games. The fonds also contains bulletins published by the Canadian Swimming Coaches Association (CSCA), a number of scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings from swimming events, Thierry’s collection of postcards and media passes to major swim meets, and the official binders issued to media members for the XI Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and XXI Olympics in Montreal. The material in the Thierry fonds has been divided into the following 7 series entitled; Swim News, Correspondence, Swim Meets: Results, Rankings and Guides, CSCA Bulletins, Swimming History Texts and Scrapbooks, Collected Memorabilia and Artifacts, and Photographs.

Personal records of Anatol Rapoport, multi-lingual musician, mathematician, and psychologist, a pioneer and lead-figure of the systems sciences, studies in conflict and co-operation, and peace research, author of approximately 500 publications, and professor emeritus of psychology and mathematics at the University of Toronto. The files consist of correspondence, manuscripts, reports, minutes of meetings, university teaching and administrative files, and photographs that document his life and career, principally at the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Toronto and the Institut für höhere Studien in Vienna.

Consists of the records of Dr. Thomas Hull documenting his career in applied mathematics and computer science. Includes correspondence and printed E-mail messages, talks, manuscripts of articles, research notes, reviews and recommendations, teaching files and professional association files. Dr. Hull was also a student of the well known mathematician, Leopold Infeld at the time of his resignation from the University of Toronto; there are some copies of correspondence between Hull and Infeld. Also included is Dr. Hull's collection of photographs which he took documenting various events of the Arts and Letters Club 1981-1996.

Notably missing are significant records relating to his role as a key administrator in the Department of Computer Science, his career as an influential educator and any records documenting his time at the University of British Columbia and at the University of Toronto as a student in the 1940s.

This fonds contains only a small amount of the body of work produced by Prof. Curry during his more than thirty years as an academic and scholar specializing in the theoretical studies in economic geography. The fonds is arranged in three series. Series 1 Correspondence includes correspondence in chronological from his period teaching at the University of Maryland through his career at the University of Toronto as well as subject files. Series 2 Manuscripts is the largest series by volume and contains 25 files relating to both published and unpublished papers, representing less than 50% of his body of work. There is only one file relating to geography courses taught during his time at the University of Toronto. There are no records documenting his studies in England, the United States or New Zealand.

Fonds consists of eleven series documenting in varying degrees the personal, professional and academic activities of Dr. Andrew James Rhodes, professor of microbiology and former Director, University of Toronto School of Hygiene. While there is some documentation relating to his life prior to and during his appointment as Director, University of Toronto School of Hygiene, the bulk of the records in this accession document his activities and employment after 1970. Series 6 and 9 document his employment with the Ontario provincial government, first as Medical Director, Laboratory Services Branch, Ministry of Health ( 1970-1977) and then as Chairman of the Rabies Advisory Committee, Ministry of Natural Resources (1979-1988). While he was employed outside the University of Toronto for nearly twenty years, he continued his teaching responsibilities and occasionally undertook special projects such as the University Teaching Hospitals survey (Series 8) and the U. of T. Biosafety Committee (Series 7).

While Dr. Rhodes was well known for his scholarly publications on bacteriology and virology, manuscripts of these publications are not contained in this accession [2]. However, Series 11 does contain records for Within Reach of Everyone. A history of the University of Toronto School of Hygiene and the Connaught Laboratories which he co-authored with Dr. Paul Bator. Two volumes of this history were published in 1990 and 1995 respectively. Correspondence, research materials, and page proofs for Volume 1 predominate, within only a few files regarding plans for Volume 2.

[2] In 1940 Dr. Rhodes, with Dr. C.E. van Rooyen published Virus Diseases of Man. In 1949, they again collaborated on Textbook of virology for students and practicioners of medicine and other health sciences. This book which was produced in 5 editions over the next few years established the University of Toronto School of Hygiene as the centre for medical virology in the world.

This fonds consists of one accession documenting three generations of the McCarthy family of Toronto. The majority of records document two graduates of the University of Toronto, Douglas Findlay McCarthy (B.A.Sc, 1929) and his son, Douglas Dale McCarthy (M.D. 1955). Sous fonds 1 consists of personal records of Douglas Findlay McCarthy documenting primarily his years as an engineering student during the mid 1920s at the University of Toronto. Personal diaries cover his education not only for these four years (1924-1929) but also some of his high school years at Malvern Collegiate. Also included are photographs of his team sports in water polo and basketball as well as graduation, and sports artifacts such as two trophies for bowling and rugby. Among the materials in Series 1 are the only documents relating to his father: two engineer’s booklets signed “Geo. A. McCarthy, Moncton, N.B.” and dated 1893.
Sous fonds 2 contains records relating to his son, Dale McCarthy during his time as a medical student in medicine in 1955 and relating to his medical career in the 1960s. However among these materials are some medical prescriptions believed to belong to his maternal grandfather, A.W. Moffatt for the 19th century as well as a Marey Sphygmograph used for measuring blood pressure during the same time period. Unfortunately, there is no documentation regarding his years with the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto, or his involvement with the Ontario March of Dimes in Northern Ontario.

Certificates of attendance and registration cards, receipts, and schedules for courses taken by William James Corrigan at Trinity Medical College (1901-1903) and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto (1903-1905 and 1920-1921), and letter of reference (1907).

A collection of files for Exile, a literary journal based in Toronto; contains manuscripts with notes, revisions, instructions to the printer, and galley proofs for poems, short stories, essays, plays and art which appeared in Exile from 1972-75; includes 171 photographs and other graphic material.

The collection consists of drafts and final typescripts of literary works, original art work, correspondence, juvenilia, printed appearances, printed material, critical and audio-visual material, and works about Atwood.

A collection of Russell Brown's literary papers, and his editorial and correspondence files from his tenure as editor at 'Lakehead University Review' (1972-1975), 'Descant' (1979-1983), as joint editor of 'An Anthology of Canadian Literature in English' (1982-1983), and poetry editor at McClelland and Stewart (1983-1988). Brown edited about thirty books of poetry, including works by Roo Borson, Lorna Crozier, Mary di Michele, Ralph Gustafson, Irving Layton, Douglas LePan, Susan Musgrave and Al Purdy. Some manuscripts are included with the correspondence. Manuscripts for which the authors sought Brown's editorial and critical suggestions may contain lengthy comments which, in many cases, resulted in the works being revised and later published.

B2013-0020: 1910-1918: Documents, photographs and artifacts document three generations of the Peterkin - Williamson family. Most of the items relate to Marie Peterkin (B.A. 1919) including a photo album with family photos, photos of fellow students, house parties in Bala and the Toronto Island, convocation,, fellow female workers on break at the munitions factory during World War I. There are also a few items for Ruby Peterkin, aunt to Marie Peterkin, who served in Salinika as nurse in the No. 4 Canadian General Hospital. There are a few photos including two from Salonika as well as an engraved letter opener from her time overseas. Marie Peterkin married John Williamson (B.A. 1910) and their daughter is the donor of this accession Mary Williamson (B.A. 1955). This accession includes the graduating portrait for each as well as two UT letters earned by Mary.

B2014-0013: Photo album originally belonged to John D. Williamson (B.A. 1910) and documents various members and activities of the Williamson family members. Photos show campus views of grounds and students ca. 1906 – 1917 as well as a trip to western Canada 1912, and to Temagami 1916 and 1917. There are also two portraits of J.Peter Williamson, son of John D. Williamson.

B2017-0015: Includes 60th Anniversary Distinguished Graduate Award medal, won by Mary Williamson, alumnus of the Faculty of Library and Information Science. Includes accompanying photograph and letter. One photograph of Marie Peterkin (Williamson) taken ca. 1950 with former U.C. classamate Vida Peene (U.C. 1919). Finally there are a series of photographer proof portraits of J.Peter Williamson in military uniform, 1951.

B2019-0026: Consists of Two binders of collected documents on Marie Peterkin (B.A. 1919) and John Williamson (B.A. 1910) including memoriabilia, legal documents, photographs, diaires, correspondence and some family histories. This accession also has a photo album documenting the couple's trips to Bermuda and Florida in the 1950s and 1960s. There are two oversized certificates for John Williamson.

Gilles, Upper Ottawa Improvement Co., 1931; table of wages for logging and sawmill industry, 1913-1931; sketch maps, a sketch of equipment, and publications relating to the forest products industry in Ontario.

This fonds consists of one accession containing the personal records of Margaret Allemang, Muriel Ward, Jean Wilson, Patricia S.B. Stanojevic, Catherine McNaughton, Ethel Irwin, Mary Potts, Muriel Uprichard and Delta and Irene Mick. These records were donated to the Margaret M. Allemang Centre for the History of Nursing Archives by the women themselves or their family members. The records cover a variety of topics relating to the history of nursing such as their own involvement as staff members in the School of Nursing at the University of Toronto, the development of nursing curricula, nurses involvement in World War II, and the study of cardiac patients. The fonds includes correspondence, photographs, research data, oral history interviews, audiocassettes, nurse’s pins and published manuscripts.

This small accession contains the following:

• Letter from Gerald Blake at the front to his Uncle in 1915, a letter from his cousin Clara Benson to his mother regarding his death, 1916 and a telegram from informing the Blake family of Gerald Blake's death.
• Reminiscence by Constance Blake Marani when she worked in Hart House under Dr. Bott and Dr. Blatz during the World War I as well as postcards she received from soldiers serving overseas.
• Transcripts of six World War I letters home from Geoffrey Marani June - Nov 1918.

Notebook of course notes taken by Thomas Dawson Delamere during the first term of the year-long course in metaphysics taught by James Beaven in University College, 1864-1865. The notes are of Thomas Reid's "Essays on the Intellectual Powers of Man" in Hamilton's edition as interpreted by Beaven and were taken from dictation.

Photo album of a trip to Europe in 1921 and of scenes in Alberta, where Percy Bennett lived and taught; postcards of London, Paris, Rome and Venice. Certificates for his BASc degree (1915) and class reunions of 1965 and 1975.
