Series 1: Video and Music Production
The Blue Rodeo accrual’s first series is based on video and music production. This series deals with the business side of music production, music video requests and music sheets. It contains handwritten drafts of music sheets for their songs Sad Nights, It Could Happen to You, and Blew it away. It also includes correspondences to various production studios, video/film production ideas, and talks on video treatment for Blue Rodeo Music Videos. Lisa Mann and Christopher Mills created music treatments, and Anne Lindsay arranged the music score.
Series 2: Blue Rodeo-Live Contracts
The second series contains the collections of gig contracts for Blue Rodeo and Jim Cuddy’s solo acts. The venues include both public and private performances. The documents in the series are the engagement contract forms from the Toronto Musician’s Association for Blue Rodeo tours and contracts from the American Federation of Musicians of the United States and Canada. It also includes correspondence, catering, and memos from various venues. The contracts are from their tours in Canada and various international tours in Europe, the United States, and South America.
Series 3: Tour Itineraries
The third series retains Blue Rodeo tour itineraries both for Canadian and international tours. Itineraries include the scheduling for Lost Together, Tremolo, and the Diamond Mine tours in Canada and the United States from 1988 to 1997. The folders contain not only the tour itineraries but also contacts from various entertainment management companies, performance schedules, invoices for advertisement, press clippings about the tour, and correspondences. The series also includes Jim Cuddy and his solo band’s performance tours.
Series 4: Audio Visuals
The fourth series includes the videos and audio tapes from their concerts and songs. Videos include events such as the 40th Juno Awards red carpet, their shows at Horseshoe Tavern, Blue Rodeo in Banff, and Massey Hall. Audio from this collection includes songs Is it You, Moon and Tree, The Undiscovered Country, Walk like you Don’t Mind, Blue Rodeo in Stereovision, and other songs. It also includes vinyl records I don’t know why (You Love Me)/ Look what you've done, their songs from Hi-Fi.
Series 5: Press clippings
The fifth series contains a collection of press collections, magazines, and online articles that follow the journey of Blue Rodeo and Jim Cuddy’s solo performance written in in English, French, and German. Blue Rodeo press clippings publishers are from Canada, Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Press clippings include their various tours, album reviews, interviews with Blue Rodeo and Jim Cuddy, NHL sports competitions, and lastly, the press featuring Blue Rodeo merchandise and marketing for concerts and albums.
Series 6: Merchandise and Advertisement
The sixth series includes the merchandise materials, objects, and proofs. Merchandise materials include business cards of various media companies proposing their works to Blue Rodeo by giving samples of their security access passes, patches, stickers, and langers. Media companies that submitted their work to Blue Rodeo also worked with musicians such as Snoop Dog, Eagles, Blink 182, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, KISS, and other music festival companies. Other merchandise materials include the Blue Rodeo’s tour apparel, which includes t-shirts, sweaters, and jackets. The advertisement consists of correspondence to Blue Rodeo and Jim Cuddy’s managers, music producers, and flyers to their earlier events. The last piece in the series is the personal apparel from Jim Cuddy, which includes his JUNO Cup hockey jerseys and business suits.
Series 7: Awards
The final series includes all the awards and recognition that Blue Rodeo and Jum Cuddy received during their careers. Awards include plaques, programs for award shows, and guides for the inductees. The numerous industry awards consist of the JUNOs, SOCANs, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the 2014 CBC Music Awards, and Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts – the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award (GGPAA) for Lifetime Artistic Achievement. Lastly, it includes correspondence for participation in charity work.

University of Toronto. Administrative activities

This series provides partial documentation Professor Lang’s years as a senior administrator at the University of Toronto. It begins with correspondence, primarily with President Connell, and related material regarding the Ontario Commission on the Future Development of the Universities of Ontario (the Bovey Commission), followed by later correspondence (to 1990) with him. The subsequent correspondence files end in 2010, some of which are contained on 3.5 inch floppy disks.

Professor Lang’s “general files” and “miscellaneous projects” begin with two major controversial decisions, the first being the closure of the Faculty of Food Sciences (1974) and the proposed closure of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (1986), with only the first being realized. The remainder of this subseries focuses on capital plans and budgeting, primarily responsibility centre budgeting as applied to Scarborough College. There are also files on Maclean’s magazine university and college surveys from the 1990s. The admission surveys from the last quarter of the 20th century also include a Maclean’s survey.

In the mid-1990s the University introduced a new electronic students’ records system (ROSI) with leadership provided by the Registrars Group. It is well documented here. Professor Lang’s activities as a senior policy advisor to the President of the University of Toronto are also documented but only for the years 2005 to 2007.

Professor Lang maintained extensive files on campus development plans and building projects from the mid-1960s to the late 1990s relating to all three campuses, including several on the Southwest Campus. There are also proposals to provide land for a new headquarters building for the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto (1982) and facilities for the abortive bid to hold the summer Olympics in Toronto in 1996.

B2011-0003 ends with several proposals for an innovations centre and an industrial research centre at the University in the decade from the mid-1980s.

B2018-0001 includes further files related to his role as Senior Policy Advisor to David Naylor, a role in which he served until 2012. Also included are arbitration briefs and notes about a dispute between the Faculty Association and the University in 1986-1987, regarding mandatory retirement for professors.

Digital files include email correspondence with several Government of Ontario and U of T officials; files about the Maclean’s survey; and files (notes, briefts, reports) about the expansion of the number of graduate students at the University of Toronto.

The sub-titles in this series are those used by Professor Lang in his original box list. The files contain correspondence, memoranda, notes, and reports, Also included are compact discs containing certain files of correspondence and reports. The arrangement is generally by categories and chronolgically within each, with like materials grouped together.

Composing, cycling : [community talks]

File consists of John Beckwith's lecture notes, musical examples, and photographs for a talk entitled "Composing, Cycling: Two Harmless Pursuits" gien at Fairlawn (February 3, 2014); Jubilee United (November 22, 2017); and to Sprint Senior Care (March 16, 2018).

Terry Watada’s second accession primarily contains material relating to his publications, most notably drafts and proofs for two novels: Kuroshio: The Blood of Foxes and The Three Pleasures. The papers also include drafts and correspondence pertaining to individual

poetry submissions as well as his published work: Ten Thousand Views of Rain, Obon: The Festival of the Dead and The Game of 100 Ghosts. The collection includes correspondence, drafts and promotional material for Watada’s contribution to anthologies, as well as his involvement in cultural and academic conferences and events.

Blissymbolics - International

This series contains a variety of materials related to the international community of Blissymbolics. It includes material from BCIC affiliates and partners, research, teaching materials, and workshops on Blissymbolics, as well as Bliss user communication displays and textual creations. This series also contains children's books written in Blissymbols, some with translations in a variety of languages. The majority of this series consists of non-English material.

Series 1: People
The first series contains press clippings from various publications of various actors, reviews, and critics of the films—numerous articles on the Directors, musicians, producers, and writers. Press clippings are organized alphabetically by last name, from Joe Abeywicrema to Valerio Zurlini.

Series 2: AGE Series III
The A-G-E Film Society of Toronto was created in 1955 until 1962 for the purpose of “providing those who lived through the cinema’s formative years with the opportunity to relive the past, and to give the new generation of film enthusiasts a chance to see what had been accomplished in motion pictures before their interest in films began.” Within the second series, the AGE collection includes the application for membership in the AGE. It contains the AGE 2nd to AGE 6th Season programmes letter from the AGE Film Society of Toronto to various partners and film organizations. The series also includes several newspaper clippings on the AGE Society.

Series 3: Film Company Catalogues
The third series contains the documents and items from various film production companies whose titles are included in the TFS collection. Production company catalogues collected are from Canadian and international film companies. Companies included in the series are A World of Entertainment, Universal/16, Pan Canadian Film Distributors Inc, Cinematheque Ontario, Paramount, Universal Pictures and more. Many catalogues also come from the TFS Summer series and other film events hosted by TFS.

Series 4: Dorothy and Oscar Burritt Award
The Fourth series contains the textual files and objects on the Dorothy and Oscar Burritt Award. The award was named in honour of Dorothy and Oscar Burritt, who left Vancouver from the Vancouver branch of the Canadian film Society to aid in the creation of the TFS. The Burritt’s contribution to the film society movement was recognized by a special Canadian Film Award in 1963, just a few months before Dorothy’s death. The Toronto Film Society established the Dorothy Burritt Memorial Award (later renamed for Dorothy and Oscar Burritt Memorial Award), an annual cash grant to support projects that contribute “to greater understanding and enjoyment of the film as an art”. The collection includes correspondences from various film societies, such as the Vancouver branch and other film production companies. It also contains reports, Memorial Award packages, press clippings, marketing on advertising the various TFS events, and correspondence to the Burritt Memorial Award Committee.

Series 5: Toronto Film Society Administration
The Fifth series contains the documentation on the administration side of the TFS. Many of the TFS's administration documents include meeting minutes from their AGM (Annual General Meeting) and TFS Board Meeting Minutes. Such meetings include the general and board meeting minutes, documents that pertain to the international film festival and many other festivals, TFS committee report, and correspondences. The series also contains the administration for their awards, such as the Dorothy and Oscar Burritt Memorial Award and film acquisitions. TFS administration documents include their members' information, votes and questionnaires for their members. It also consists of the Eastman House, financial reports, and statements on the TFS events, such as the summer and seasons series. Lastly, include film acquisition documents of various films.

Articles, reviews, published addresses and referee comments

This series contains records documenting Prof. Russell’s extensive production of both published and unpublished works including articles, papers, reviews, informal talks and addresses. Published articles were produced primarily for scholarly journals and document his specialized knowledge on Canada’s Supreme Court, the Charter of Rights and Canadian constitution, aboriginal rights both in Canada and Australia, commentaries for national media such as the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

Talks and addresses from accession B2005-0001 include his speeches on receiving honorary degrees at University of Guelph (1998) and University of Toronto (2001) as well as invited talks to private business such as the Canadian Club, Royal Trust, Toronto Club, as well as universities and other academic institutions in Canada and abroad.

Also included are his commentaries as referee for various manuscripts submitted by other writers for publication. Files predominantly contain drafts of manuscripts, notes, and correspondence, as well as photocopies of related materials.

Tashichi George Uyeno accession

The material is mix of textual materials encompassing many details of the Uyeno family’s life from mostly 1939 to 1947. Many early records where created from the daily business of Tashichi George Uyeno’s business, Richmond Trading Company. The records are intermixed with letters from Mary Uyeno, who aided the business from Japan. Her letters include business information but also more personal discussions about family matters. They offer a glimpse into the life of many Japanese Canadians who grew up in both countries, identifying as both Canadian and Japanese.

Records also include correspondence with the Office of the Custodian, as the Uyeno’s assets were seized and sold. There is also official notices from the Office of the Custodian notifying the family to move further east and eventually to Ontario. Letters from the later part of the 40s are in regards to the Bird Commission and the sale of larger assets, such as the family’s property in North Vancouver.

B1979-0051: Records documenting Dr. Siminovitch's career in the Faculty of Medicine and the broader field of genetics and public health. Included are records of the Department of Medical Genetics, the Sub-Committee on Science Policy of the Long Range Planning Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, and provincial bodies such as the Ontario Council of Health, Task Force on Genetics, the Ontario Cancer Institute, the Ontario Task Force on Health Research Requirements, the Mount Sinai Institute and many more. There are also 7 boxes of editorial case files for the journal Virology, edited by Siminovitch from 1974-1976. [17 boxes, 1968-1979, no finding aid]

B2019-0010: Personal records of Dr. Louis (Lou) Siminovitch documenting the latter part of his career as a molecular biologist and Head of the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital. Includes extensive correspondence subject files with colleagues, family, and friends, along with files related to his numerous speaking engagements. [30 boxes, 1963-2017]

Includes early, unpublished and other drafts of From Harvey River, Controlling the Silver, Turn Thanks, Collected Poems and other material related to the life and work of Lorna Goodison. Includes Goodison’s original sketchbook, and photograph of Lorna Goodison with Lemuel Johnson.

Conferences, Talks, Unpublished Papers

Records in this series include notes, drafts, correspondence and flyers related to conferences Professor Rayside attended and/or participated in, unpublished talks and workshops, and unpublished papers, as well as less formal writing. The conferences documented mostly pertain to equity issues faced by gay and lesbian populations. The talks and workshops relate to a variety of topics including political science, labour unions, gendered violence, philanthropy and diversity in the workplace and were delivered mostly at Canadian universities in the form of symposia, guest lectures and public lectures. The unpublished papers in this series relate mainly to equity issues in Canadian and American society. There is also one sound recording of Professor Rayside delivering the Kreeft Lecture on November 28, 2002.

Records in B2017-0024 included talks, panels, and conferences on subjects such as inclusion, religion in the public sphere and positive space. There is also a paper he gave at Spring Reunion in 2016 as well as a memorial for colleagues Stephen Clarkson and David Higgs.

Includes original holograph notebooks, drafts, research, voluminous correspondence (129 boxes), ephemera, and all manner of material related to the life and work of poet, performer, activist and professor George Elliott Clarke. Child (1994); research files, including interviews, for Safarian's writings on foreign ownership and multinational enterprise; and files on his professional association woth the Canadian-American Committee, including notes on its confidential meetings (1972-1992), and on confidential meetings of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (1991-1997), espeically its Economic Growth and Policy Program. David Rayside fonds

Records in this fonds document most aspects of Prof. Rayside’s career as an administrator, activist and academic. Series 1 (Biographical) and 2 (Correspondence) give a good overview of his career and the professional correspondence in Series 2 relate to or complete most other series in the fonds. Correspondence can also be found in all other series.

His role as an adept administrator is documented not only in Series 3 (University of Toronto Administration) but also in the records found in Series 4 (Advocacy) and Series 5 (Professional Associations) where his leadership and involvement on committees is evident. Fonds consists of material related to the professional life of Hershell Ezrin, in particular his career in provincial and federal government. Records document his transition between roles as Canadian Consul, Executive Director of the Canadian Unity Information Office, and later, Principal Secretary to Ontario Premier, David Peterson. Extensive correspondence and press clippings reflect professional moves as well as the large network of individuals surrounding Ezrin in his positions in both the public and corporate sectors. Amir Hassanpour fonds

Fonds consists of records documenting the professional and personal life of Prof. Hassanpour, Kurdish-Iranian Marxist scholar and Professor at UofT’s Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations. Material reflects key areas of Prof. Hassanpour’s research, most significantly Kurdish history and culture; the history of political movements, grassroots organization, and class struggle in Iran, Iraq and Turkey; and communication theory and sociolinguistics. Material includes correspondence with colleagues and scholars internationally, documentation of research with particular focus on Prof. Hassanpour’s dissertation and his Peasant Movement Project, records relating to conference presentations, interviews, and teaching, as well as his publishing activity.

Prof. Hassanpour was deeply invested in the preservation of Kurdish oral, visual, and textual documentary heritage as a response to the historical state suppression of cultural-political struggle of Kurdish people. Reflected in records throughout the fonds is Prof. Hassanpour’s work in pursuing the establishment of Kurdish Studies as a discipline, his work editing journals related to Kurdistan, and his effort in exposing and circulating books on Kurdish Studies to libraries and research institutions internationally. Prof. Hassanpour also actively collected and preserved Kurdish texts, dailies, and visual materials. This material is included in Series 9 (Reference material) and through bibliographic and audio material held in other repositories at the University of Toronto Libraries (please see the related material note below).

Judith F. Friedland fonds

Fonds consists of material documenting the professional life and work of Prof. Judith Friedland. Records focus on her education and career within academia, in particular as a professor, and former Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy. Material also covers some aspects of Prof. Friedland’s career working as an occupational therapist. Records include typescripts and presentation notes, administrative records from the Department of Occupational Therapy, teaching and course material, clinical notes, correspondence, awards, and biographical material.

The history of occupational therapy in Canada has significant coverage through records related to the research and publication of Prof. Friedland’s book, Restoring the Spirit, as well as through the collected records of Helene Primrose LeVesconte, Thelma Cardwell, and Isobel Robinson. Represented in Series 8 to 10, these three individuals each served as former heads of the UofT’s Department of Occupational Therapy, in addition to teaching and practicing occupational therapy. The collected historical material includes minutes, typescripts, correspondence, artifacts and teaching material.

Friedland, Judith F.

Biographical and personal

This series contains passports, daily agendas (58 volumes) and an address book, as well as files relating to the Banff School of Fine Arts, Professor Peers’ academic life, awards that he received and books that he wrote. Also included are a class photograph of the East Coulee School where Peers taught and was principal from 1939-1942, personal correspondence, photographs of Peers with friends, travel documents and records relating to his 90th birthday and the memorial service held upon his death. The series concludes with a file of records relating to David Rayside, a U of T professor and close friend of Peers.

The “biographical information” file [/003(04)] contains, amongst many other items, several pieces that Professor Peers himself penned between 1980 and 2002 about his family and background and his years as a high school teacher. Included with this is a CD from one of his nieces, Bev Swanton, titled “Acadia Valley Homecoming 2012”, that celebrates the hamlet, the surrounding farms (including that of the Peers family) and includes the centennial parade.

Research, publications and presentations

Series consists of records related to Joan and Frederick Winter’s archaeological research, particularly their study of Pausauias’ travels. Material includes typescripts, background research material, and images. In addition to a published article, a significant portion of the material documents the presentation of the couple’s research through scripts, a ‘photographic companion’ (annotated) album, and slides.
