Miscellaneous Administration & Correspondence

This subseries contains miscellaneous files relating to administrative activities from BCIC, including the files and correspondence of staff and Executive Directors, such as Dave Martin and Dr. Harry Silverman. It also includes records relating to conferences and events held in association with OISE.

Affiliate Agreements

This subseries includes copies of affiliate agreements and correspondence with affiliates of BCIC from across the globe. It includes organizations in the United States, Finland, France, Hungary, Australia and more.

C.K. Bliss

This subseries contains materials relating to the legal case between Blissymbolics Communication International - Canada and Charles K. Bliss regarding the usage and licensing of Blissymbols.

Letters

Subseries includes correspondence both written and sent to Kathleen Parlow from 1868-1967. Subseries also includes envelopes and a few newspaper clippings, perhaps included in the letters. Notable writers include Leopold Auer who was Kathleen Parlow's teacher.

Subseries includes a collection of postcards. Some of the postcards are blank, others were written or sent by Kathleen Parlow. Postcards are in both black and white and colour.

Published scores

Subseries consists of sheet music and published scores performed by Kathleen Parlow and/or given to her by the composer. The subseries includes quartet parts used by the Parlow String Quartet, and a piano score for Violin Concerto no. 2 by Henryk Wieniawski with annotations by Parlow's teacher Leopold Auer. Most of the sheet music has been annotated by Parlow.

Toronto New Music Alliance

Subseries consists of agendas, meeting minutes, correspondence, and other records relating to the Toronto Coalition of New Music Presenters (TCNMP) or Toronto New Music Alliance, a coalition of ensembles and performing arts organizations in Toronto dedicated to New Music. The coalition formed in 2001 following the closure of Massey Hall and the New Music Festival (NuMuFest) as a collective of 28 music ensembles, concert presenters, and other organizations dedicated to the creation and proliferation of new music in Toronto. Groups include New Music Concerts, Soundstreams Canada, soundaXis, Music Gallery, Esprit Orchestra, MusicWorks, Toca Loca, Les Amis, CONTACT Contemporary Music, the Canadian Music Centre, Arraymusic, the Ambient Ping, Continuum, Earshot! Concerts, Hannaford Street Silver Band, New Adventure in Sound Art, and others.

Records include correspondence with performers, composers, venues, and other related individuals; contracts and agreements with musicians; rehearsal schedules; promotional photographs of musicians and composers; stage plots; and other notes.

Season planning documents

Subseries contains general documents relating to each concert season of New Music Concerts, including ticket sales, programming suggestions, musicians' contracts, venue contracts, and orchestra rehearsal schedules.

Touring materials

Subseries contains documents from New Music Concerts tours, including their 1976 tour of Europe and their Northern Ontario and United States tour in 1980.

Subseries contains documents relating to the funding, production, release, and distribution of recordings by New Music Concerts, including: New Music Concerts (1990); Lutoslawski conducts Lutoslawksi (1998); Sixteen Dances by John Cage (CP2 Records, 2002), from a recording of a concert by the New Music Concerts Ensemble in Walter Hall, conducted by Paul Zukofsky (January 31, 1982); Vox Balaenae and Other Works (Naxos, 2006), featuring music by George Crumb; and 100th Anniversary Release (Naxos, 2008) of music by Elliott Carter.

Grant applications and correspondence

Subseries consists of correspondence and copies of New Music Concerts' applications and reports to granting agencies, including Metro Toronto, the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto, Ontario Arts Council, and Canada Council. NMC applied for grants to support the operational costs of the performing arts organizations, including the costs of presenting their concert season and commissioning new compositions. Grant applications include budgets, artistic director's reports, financial statements, and proposals for concerts and events.

CBC Wednesday night

Subseries consists of scripts, scores, and parts for the weekly radio program "CBC Wednesday Night," later rebranded "CBC Wednesday Night" and finally "CBC Tuesday Night". Phil Nimmons regularly wrote incidental music for radio plays broadcast on this program.
