Personal records of Martin L. Friedland, Professor and former Dean of Law, consisting of personal and professional correspondence, certificates, memoranda, notes, briefs, reports, and drafts of publications relating to his administrative and other activities in the Faculty of Law and other divisions at the University of Toronto, various legal organizations, his work as a consultant, and his writings.

The publications documented in depth are a comparison of jury selection in Canada and the United States, judicial independence in Canada, and the eighth edition of his casebook on criminal law. Dr. Friedland’s work as a consultant includes studies for the federal Somalia enquiry, the Criminal Justice Review Committee and the Office of the Attorney General of Ontario, and projects for other provincial and territorial governments. Other files document his activities as a member of the Board and Manuscript Review Committee of the University of Toronto Press, and a number of other organizations including the Canada-China Senior Judges Training program, the Osgoode Society, the Royal Society of Canada. Included are photographs and a video.

B2009-0023: Film entitled "Undergradutes Presentation and Farewell to Sir Robert Falconer". This is a black and white silent film showing the presentation of a gift book to President Falconer in Convocation Hall. (1 film, March 1932)

Mothercraft –OISE project

In 1968, Dr. Fowler headed up a research team in a joint Canadian Mothercraft Society (CMS) – OISE study to determine the effects of quality child care on disadvantaged children. This two-year joint study formed the basis upon which the Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum was written. In particular it involved the development of a model infant day care centre for disadvantaged children from four months to two and one half years of age. It also included a follow up study conducted by Dr. Fowler in 1973-1974.

This series documents this joint study with Mothercraft in general and Dr.Fowler’s role in particular. It includes minutes of meetings of the Board of Mothercraft, and the OISE research staff, correspondence with Mothercraft officials, OISE faculty and staff, municipal, federal and provincial governments, private foundations (like the Atkinson Foundation, Laidlaw Foundation), research proposals, budget and publicity files, papers and progress reports. Also included is the film script for “Joint OISE-Mothercraft Infant Demonstration Program” with text of Dr. Fowler’s commentary (1973).

This series also includes film elements including original negative, sound track and release print to the OISE produced film A Demonstration Program on Infant Care and Education in which Dr. Fowler describes the OISE Infant care and education program and Mothercraft Society with emphasis on learning through play.

This DVD contains an interview with Dr. Nick Bontis in Hart House on Jan 12 2009. It also contains an early Bontis lecture, edited and produced most likely for promotional purposes. The DVD does not contain the Hancock Lecture that was given at Convocation Hall on Februrary 4 2009.

Included are files of the science editor, Leonard Bertin (1971-1974), including news releases and news items (1965-1971); files relating to the 50th anniversary of the discovery of insulin (1971-1972); campus tours (1965-1973); and convocation and other addresses, on film (1959-1967). There are also photoprints of faculty, students, visiting lecturers, distinguished guests, and events associated with the University of Toronto; and images of campus grounds and buildings, including aerial views, and events on campus. Film

This series consists of five films made by Dr. Black. Four are home movies documenting his children, Davy and Nevitt; one is of the Summer Palace and Elliott Smith in Peking in 1930.

These film were done for the Royal Society by Davidson Black. The first roll shows the localities as well as some of the excavation, quarrying, labelling of specimens etc...
Roll 2 is titles "A trip to Cho Kou Tien" and shows the countryside and villages en-route.
Roll 3 shows detailed excavation of the skull.

L'Arche Audiovisual Collection

Collection consists of audiovisual materials featuring recordings of events given by and used by members of l'Arche International/Internationale. This material includes 1708 audio cassettes, 37 videocassettes, 8 film reels, and 78 audio reels. Much of the material features recordings created at L'Arche retreats internationally, such as the Covenant Retreat, Renewal Retreat, and Faith and Light Retreat. Prominent speakers include Jean Vanier, Henri Nouwen, Joe Egan, Robert Larouche and Sue Mosteller.

The majority of the audio files feature Jean Vanier, usually speaking at retreats. The film reels are recordings made and collected by L'Arche Daybreak, and feature a CBC film on Daybreak (from 1970), pilgramages and trips made by Faith and Light and Daybreak. There is also a film reel of Jean Vanier.

Collection has been arranged into eight series:

Includes corporate files from the Canadian Bata Shoe Company (including correspondence; legal and financial records; product development, marketing and promotional files; technical and production-related files, and human resources files). The bulk of the material was created by the Canadian Bata company, however many records relate to several of the oraganization’s international outposts, including companies headed in Africa, India, Asia and Europe. The collection also includes press clippings and other publications about the Bata Company and its historical significance. There are also a small number of Bata family records, primarily for Thomas J. Bata (1914-2008), Sonja I. Bata, Tomáš Baťa (1876-1932) and Marie Bata.

Personal records of George Zarb, Professor Emeritus of and former head of Prosthodontics in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto, who introduced dental implantology to North America and who is recognized internationally for his contributions to his field.
