Biographical ephemera

Series consists of records from John Beckwith's student years; scrapbooks of concerts Beckwith attended and participated in during this time; awards, tributes, and honours that he received later in his career in recognition of his many contributions to Canadian music; and other general biographical material that Beckwith collected throughout his life.

Biographical information and personal memorabilia

Series consists of miscellaneous memorabilia and biographical information pertaining to Michael Colgrass, including Ulla Colgrass' speech for the celebration of Michael Colgrass at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music (2019); biographies of Michael Colgrass and lists of his works and recordings; letters saved as "Ego boosters"; Michael Colgrass' first passport; a "Wanted" poster for Michael Colgrass; astrological charts for the Colgrass family; humorous drawings and writings; and a certificate for the "Michael Colgrass" star from the International Star Registry.

Series also includes videos from Colgrass' 85th birthday party (2017), obituaries, sympathy notes from friends and colleagues following his death, and videos from the Michael Colgrass Life Celebration Party held at Walter Hall, University of Toronto Faculty of Music (November 2019).

Series consists of chronological research files. Some of the files include tables of contents, which index the notes, clippings, and copies of material relating to Theodore Thomas's career included in the file.

Classical scores

Series contains various classical scores and parts, many of which were arranged and/or composed by Doug Riley.

Commissions

Series consists an overview of commissions by the John Adaskin Project and correspondence relating to these commissions, including letters from various Canadian composers. The commissioning of Canadian composers to write additional music for schools was part of Phase 3 for the John Adaskin Project (see information sheets in Series D).

Series consists of manuscript scores and parts, and sketches, for Lothar Klein's instrumental, vocal, choral, chamber, and orchestral works. File also contains film and incidental music written by Klein.

Series consists of Ron Collier’s arrangements and original compositions, mostly written for various jazz formations and big band. The series includes manuscript scores, parts, and some sketches for Collier's compositions and arrangements.

Series consists of some original compositions and many arrangements by Leslie Bell, predominantly for choral ensemble, with some scores and parts for band or orchestra.

Concert performances and performing records

Series consists of records pertaining to performances by, and the repertoire of, Esprit Orchestra. Records include planning documents for both subscription and non-subscription concerts; planning documents for their national and international tours; correspondence and contracts with musicians; rehearsal schedules; repertoire lists; records relating to performance venues and audiences; and records and correspondence relating to composer commissions.

Concert planning documents

Series contains documents relating to the presentation of individual concerts (including correspondence and contracts); planning documents for each concert season; touring materials; documents relating to New Music Concerts' (NMC) commercially-released compact disc recordings; and records pertaining to the recording and broadcast of NMC concerts by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).

Concert programmes

Series contains concert programmes dated from 1939-1958. Programmes reflect performances from Kathleen Parlow as well as the performances of the South Mountain String Quartet, Parlow String Quartet, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Trio, and many of other performers. Concert programmes are from a variety of locations worldwide including the United States, England, Finland, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and many other locations. Programmes are in black and white and colour. Some programmes have gold gilt edges as well as other visually interesting features.

Concert programs

Series consists of programs and other ephemera collected by Carl Morey, predominantly from performances that he attended in Canada, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, and Italy. Some programs also include ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, annotations by Morey, or program notes written by Morey. Several early programs are autographed by the performers.

Concerts

Series consists of materials produced by the Aldeburgh Connection for each of their concerts, including the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series, held at Walter Hall, Faculty of Music, University of Toronto (1982-2013); the Recital Series at the Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto (1993-2013); the Discovery Series (also called the Young Artists Series), held at Walter Hall (1998-2011); the Bayfield Festival of Song (2007-2012); and various concerts performed on tour in North America and Great Britain. Each file contains the records created and used in the production of the concert, including promotional materials (programs, posters, and pamphlets); correspondence with musicians, sponsors, and venues; newspaper clippings of concert reviews; contracts with performers and venues; research notes; narrative scripts for the Sunday Afternoon Concert Series; scores annotated by Stephen Ralls and Bruce Ubukata; arrangements and transpositions of songs; stage, set, and lighting designs; subscriber lists; and ticket sales records.

Conductor's scores for Canadian compositions

Series consists of conductor's scores for Canadian compositions conducted by Victor Feldbrill, often from the world premiere performance. Each score includes Feldbrill's annotations and the scores are frequently inscribed to Feldbrill by the composer. Most scores were printed by the Canadian Music Centre (CMC).

Contracts, royalty statements, and financial documents

Series consists of contracts for commissions, workshops, and publishing (with Carl Fischer and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP); royalty statements; and tax returns for Michael Colgrass (1967-1998). Series also includes articles and correspondence relating to Colgrass' Pulitzer Prize (1978) for Déjà vu, and his Central Savings bank book (1956-1959).

Series consists of correspondence to Vic Centro from Phil Nimmons, Holly Nimmons, the Nevada Appeal (Carson City newspaper) regarding advertisements placed by Centro, and Billy O'Connor.

Correspondence includes enclosed photographs from Murray Adaskin from a visit related to Adaskin's convocation address at Brock University (October 21, 2000) and from Arie Lipsky relating to their Max Bruch project.

Daybooks

Series consists of Kathleen Parlow's diaries for each year from 1905 until 1960, with the exception of 1924, 1927, and 1955-1957, and 4 notebooks. The notebooks include her record catalogue, repertoire lists, handwritten recital programs, and her appointment diary (1905-1941).
