Includes extensive materials related to Leonard Cohen’s early writing and publications, both poetry and prose, as well as some plays and television play scripts. There are multiple drafts of many poems from Cohen’s undergraduate years through his mid-late 20s, both typescript (many with holograph revisions) and holograph. There are similar drafts of prose: short stories, and prose fragments, from the same period. Many of these writings became the basis for Cohen’s publications. Also included are materials directly related to the publication of Let Us Compare Mythologies, The Spice Box of Earth, The Favorite Game, Flowers for Hitler, and The Death of a Lady’s Man, including typescripts, page proofs, and correspondence with publishers and literary agents. There is also correspondence with friends, mentors, and colleagues, as well as some fan mail from 1967-68. The materials span 1950-1968.

Contains the personal and professional records of Robert Arnold Russel. This includes photographs of Russel and his family, information regarding his early life including schooling and university, family tree information and identifying documents such as baptism records and passports. The collection contains a comprehensive collection of Russel’s diaries and daytimers spanning from 1949 to his death in 2011. Professional records include materials pertaining to his early career in theatre, film and broadcasting, during the course of which he resided in France, England and Montreal. His career as an information professional and futurist is recorded extensively including his penning of the term “intersex” and “cybersex” in 1967 and his interview with Marshall McLuhan in 1962. As a futurist, Russel’s operated several businesses, most specifically, Orba Information (also called Orbafilm and Orba Inc), which operated between 1967 and 1993, which is archived in great detail, a smaller amount of information on later businesses including Rapid Response Inc., Toronto, Institute for Research on Public Policy and The Consortium for National Development is also available. Collection also contains drafts, proposals, budgets and storyboards surrounding Russel’s personal creative writing, including The Spark, a proposed television program and I am Haida, a proposed CD-ROM and game on Haida culture, and novels – The Petrans and Clone.

Includes correspondence and other print material related to Hungarian-American playwright and novelist Ferenc Molnar (1878-1952) and his legal wife, the actress Lili Darvas (1902-1974), with some letters addressed to Kati Rekai (1921-2010). Rekai’s aunt, Wanda Bartha, was Molnar’s private secretary, literary advisor and soul mate who died prematurely at the age of 38, and was also best friends with Darvas. Most material is in Hungarian. Molnar wrote Companion in Exile (1950) to honour the memory of his life with Wanda Bartha. Also includes a variety of material related to Kati Rekai, including a typescript account by Dr. John Rekai of the Rekai family’s experience emigrating to Canada in 1950, print items and some correspondence.

This collection contains all correspondence that was conducted by co-editors at The Idler Magazine, Gerald Owen and Paul Wilson, with their various contributors. It includes letters, drafts of articles, editorial corrections and changes, pitches and research for articles, solicited and unsolicited submissions, grant applications, photographs, employee performance evaluations, book reviews, writers' resumes and writing samples, newspaper/magazine clippings and subscription enquiries. The Idler Magazine was in operation from 1985 to 1993.
This collection also includes holograph and typescript work by ET Owen, including: teaching and lecture notes, Greek and Latin language exams, poetry, short stories, and general academic research notes on a variety of Classical topics. It also includes notes and multiple drafts, with both holograph and editorial revisions, of a number of Owen’s published works, with a significant amount of material relating to his publications on Homer, Sophocles and Aeschylus.

A collection of over 1000 examples of gay, male fiction, including books by prominent gay authors and works dealing with male homosexuality. Some non-fiction books are included in the collection. The books are in mass-market paperback editions, issued mostly by US publishers, with a few Canadian imprints, and were published between 1933 and 1995. Authors represented include John Rechy, Christopher Isherwood, Gore Vidal, James Baldwin, James Purdy, William S. Burroughs, Richard Amory, Carl Corley, Aaron Travis, Jay Greene, Phil Andros, Jack Evans, Clay Caldwell, and Paul Gronowski. Series represented in the collection include Pleasure Readers, Greenleaf Classics, HIS69, Rough Trade, Frenchy's Gay Line, Badboy, Blueboy Library, and Gay Parisian Press. Cover art is often unsigned, but includes work by Carl Corley, Harry Schaare, Frank Kelly Freas, and Tom of Finland.

Collection of the Lʹviv Oblast Party Archive

The major part of the collection consists of reports, inquiries, memoranda, records, and meeting transcripts of secretaries of the regional, district, and city party committees of the Communist Party of Ukraine. Most of the documents contain information from the regional party committee on the implementation of decisions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian SSR Council of Ministers, on the report of the L’viv Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, such as activities on strengthening ideological work among the public, and the fight with the Ukrainian nationalist underground movement. Some examples of the documents in the collection include: report reviews and copies of sentences from the Drohobych Military Tribunal; lists of groups of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in the Drohobych Region; documents on the trial of Mykhailo Stakhur (1932-1951), a member of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army who assassinated the pro-Soviet Ukrainian writer Iaroslav Halan (1902-1949); information, inquiries, and special reports from the NKGB and NKVD, including on the number of people forcibly displaced by the Nazis to Germany from the occupied territories in 1941-1945; inquiries by the Committee for State Security to the regional party committee on special checks of writers and artists; and inquiries and information on the evacuation of the Polish population from the territory of the Ukrainian SSR to Poland, and resettlement of the Ukrainian population that arrived from Poland.
