File consists of one 16mm film reel, approximately 60 minutes long, featuring a film made by Barbara Stetson in 1980 entitled "Education for Ministry." This film is a promotional film about Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University. The film briefly features Henri Nouwen twice:

1. From 19:09-19:39: Nouwen is speaking to two students.
2. From 28:00: Nouwen is leading a religious service on peace in a church.
   This film also features Yushi Nomura in the church segment at 28:00.

Football films produced for Dept. of Athletics and Recreation by Chetwynd Film Ltd. Contains: 10 video tapes, 3 8mm films, 76 16mm films.

Prof. Hume and Prof. Donald Ivey of the Department of Physics were pioneers in educational television, having developed their first 12 part program “Focus on Physics” in 1958. This was co-sponsored by CBC and the University of Toronto. The success of this series was followed up the next year by “Two for Physics”. Both series eventually aired on the National Educational Television (N.E.T.) in the United States. Other programs that followed include:

1960 – 15 short programs on Physics for children produced by CBC in cooperation with N.E.T. for joint use in Canada and United States

1962 – “The Ideas of Physics” – 4 programmes
1963 – “The Nature of Physics” – 5 programmes
1966 – “The Constant of Physics” – 4 programmes
All of these were for in-school broadcasts to Canadian high schools produced by CBC with the National Advisory Council on School Broadcasts

1960-1965 – 18 programmes for “The Nature of Things”, produced by CBC.
The program “The Nature of Things” is still today a staple of Canadian educational television. Hume and Ivey helped lay the foundation for such a successful broadcast run.

By 1960, their success in educational television spilled over into film where they were commissioned by the Physical Science Study Committee (PSSC) in the United States to do four films: “Frames of Reference”, “Periodic Motion”, “Universal Gravitation” and “Random Events”. All of these were created for distribution in high schools. In 1962, “Frames of Reference” won Edison Foundation award for the best science film and “Random Events” received a silver medal from the Scientific Institute in Rome.

This series contains a fairly complete set of scripts for all the titles noted above. Moreover, there is a 16 mm release print for each of the four films and one sound recording of one program from “The Constant of Physics” series. There are also still images from “Frame of Reference” and a file on the Edison Award.

For a good overview, researchers should begin by consulting reports written by Hume and Ivey for most of the television series. They detail the development of each theme. In addition, there is correspondence and contracts with CBC, correspondence with Educational Services Incorporated and the PSSC as well as program guides, clippings, published reviews, correspondence from viewers, and one 1962 audience response report for a “Nature of Things” programme.

B2005-0013: Personal records of former Warden of Hart House, J. B. Bickersteth. Includes personal correspondence with family, friends, politicians, colleagues at University of Toronto including Robertson Davies as well as other academic institutions, mainly following his retirement; speeches, arrangements for his 90th birthday celebration dinner at Hart House. Also includes correspondence and other papers relating to Hart House memorial on his death and matters relating to his estate. 1913-1983.

Fonds consists of material pertaining to first four short films that grew into the series and the subsequent season of production of the half-hour television series The Kids of Degrassi Street. The show ran from 1979 – 1984, and all 4 short films and 22 episodes were broadcast on CBC television. The collection consists of 121 boxes of material spanning all episodes of the show. The fonds is divided into 2 series: Corporate Records and Post-Production Records.

The first series, Corporate Records, consists of 15 boxes. These include correspondence/memos, resumes and bios, fan mail, budgets, scripts, promotional materials, teaching aids, financial and banking records, sponsor files, production and continuity stills, character files, legal documents, insurance documents, music cue sheets, and architectural drawings.

The second series, Post-Production Records, consists of 20 boxes. These include 16 mm original negative, interpositive, A&B rolls, optical soundtrack, music, master mix audio, edits, various masters, and promo reels. Textual documents include sound notes/charts, editing/mix notes and credits.

The material has retained its original arrangement.

The wedding took place at Reynolda Prebyterian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Co-officiants with Henri Nouwen are Rev. Richard Little, pastor of Reynolda and Rev. Ed Christman, a Baptist who was long-time Chaplain at Wake Forest University.

Episode of the CBC television program The Nature of Things entitled "The Comet of a Lifetime" (30 min.), in which Hogg was interviewed.

Eighteen binders of slides, photographs, contact sheets document men's and women's intramural and intercollegiate sports from 1979-1986. Approx. 50 team portraits document the Varsity Hockey and Football teams through the 1950s and early 1960s. Also included are a few portraits of early Varsity teams from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
Also includes three films that were used as teaching tools in the Faculty as well as a copy the NFB film Runner, a documentary on Canadian runner Bruce Kidd.

This fonds includes six series, divided by format. These are: Textual Material, Photographic Material, Audio Material, Video Material, Cinefilm/Cinex, and Artifacts.

The first series, Textual Material, is chiefly made up of scripts, storyboards, production files, research files, correspondence, meeting notes, equipment files, technical drawings, bylaws, cast/crew lists, contracts and proposals.

The second series, Photographic Material, represents all periods of Spiess’ career, from his early portraiture and fine art images to his industrial/commercial work to production stills documenting his cinematographic work. This series is divided into two subseries: PH.1239 & PH.610977 and PH.240609.

The third series, Audio Material, includes soundtrack production elements and music.

The fourth series, Video Material, includes high quality dubs of the various versions of the finished commercial productions, as well as production elements for those commercials shot on video.

The fifth series, Cinefilms/Cinex, includes finished release prints of the various commercials as well as a number of short films by Spiess.

The sixth series, Artifacts, consists of examples of the tools that Spiess used to teach his students, as well as mementos of his involvement with the CSC.
